What's the best kick-back beach lodging in Port Aransas?
Thinking of a quick trip to Port A. in the next couple of weeks. Looking for a laid back (even funky or old-fashioned) place on the beach. We stayed in Sand Dollar condos before, but was wondering if anyone has a favorite place...?
I know all about the condition of the beach -- just looking for lodging suggestions. Thanks so much, Jayne |
There was someone named "booker" on the Port A forum on tripadvisor saying she liked The Beach Lodge - sounds like it's less than Sandollar Sity in terms of price and space in the room, but she loved it.
We stayed at Sandollar a while back - I like it there...for what it is; much better than the huge condos. |
Thanks, Pepper. I did see Beach Lodge on Tripadvisor and thought it sounded interesting. Its website presents it as more of a bar, with some lodging available. I need to call them and check it out.

That's exactly what "booker" was saying - that it looks like it's more of a bar, but they have rooms. Seems like a good place to hang out - I think they have food also. That was one thing about Sandollar - had to make our own meals or drive to eat.

Now I'm hearing about the flesh-eating bacteria off the coast, so maybe I will wait a little while. Hopefully it will go down along with the off-season rates!

what flesh eating bacteria?? We planning on driving down to Port A this weekend.

Well, I did a little research on the subject and this is what I learned.
Apparently the bacteria is always present in the warm waters off the gulf coast, but a normally healthy person is not at risk. However, someone with an open wound or compromised immune system is suseptible. A diabetic man with a small wound on his leg was recently infected when swimming in the waters during a fishing trip off the coast near Galveston. The infection got into his blood and he's been critically ill. And to think we were always told salt water was a great cure for cuts and such... Still, I'm going to the beach sometime before it gets cold again! |
Funny, I am planning another trip to Port A. and forgot about this old post of mine. I did book Beach Lodge this time and am looking forward to this funky place.
