I think there are still tickets available for King Charles III, and that is going to be a big draw.

Doug is right. If you want tickets for either or both shows, I'd get them now, since your visit to the city comes at a busy time for the theater.

As previously noted, chances for tickets to Hamilton in the near future run from near impossible to impossible. It's been reported that its advance sales exceeds $57 million! I guess that'll probably hold the far future as well!

I look at Hamilton prices at StubHub - the cheapest tickets are at $266, and on Friday, Sat, Sunday - $380 and higher. I would have to wait...
I will make sure to get tickets right away on some of the shows recommended above.

We just returned from NYC and wanted to see "King Charles III," which got a rave review and sounds really, really good. But no luck with a ticket.

I started booking tickets, and just thought of something... Hopefully, someone may know the answer.

We invest a significant amount into tickets purchase, and there is a risk that our trip can be cancelled for whatever reason. Is there a way to insure them? Should this become a part of overall Travel insurance or there is another way?

The reason I am asking is because Ticketmaster offers this option to buy a ticket insurance for a few extra dollars. However, Telecharge, does not have this option.

Reselling on stubhub.com is whta most do.

Any travel insurance policy covers nonrefundable expenses, and this would include theater tickets. But you are certainly allowed to resell your tickets. I'm not sure how this works now that most theater tickets are electronic, but I suppose you can forward those PDFs to anyone.

Putting in a plug for "Something Rotten" - I saw it because one of my friends is in the cast. It was absolutely spectacular. It has two huge stars in Brian d'Arcy James and Christian Borle (who won the Tony for this role) and it's hilarious, brilliantly acted, great dancing and the costumes are amazing as well. I loved it!!!! If you love musicals you have to see this. Loved it so much I talked a friend out of paying up the wazoo to see "Hamilton" and he took me to see SR again! It's a really fun show.

Has anyone gone to the previews of Color Purple? I'm curious about the stripped down version from London.

I am just wondering about Misery and China Doll - both have big names... Read a review on China Doll - stating that Al Pacino forgets his lines... Interesting to hear if anyone saw any of them.

The opening of China Doll was pushed back ... so perhaps Pacino was the reason.

I haven't heard anything about Misery at all ... at least directly, but the news about Bruce Willis on the Broadway message boards is not exactly positive. People are loving Laurie Metcalf, but that's not surprising.

There have been reports of onstage and backstage problems with China Doll, along with other reports of some very dissatisfied patrons walking out.

A few quotes regarding China Doll from one of the theatre discussion boards:

"This play was, in a word, atrocious. I don't know if it was a character choice or if Pacino just wasn't comfortable with the script, but there was a lot of mumbling and fumbling going on. A good 75% of the play is Pacino sitting on a couch or pacing his apartment and talking on the phone. No one really becomes a character as we listen to these one-sided phone conversations and the topics discussed get repeated and rehashed till you can't stand it anymore."

"I was so looking forward to this and it just fell flat on it's face. You could literally feel the energy of the audience fading as each minute dragged on. At intermission many did leave at the intermission after a tedious 55 minute first act... They were the lucky ones."

"Unfortunately, I was in attendance tonight as well and felt compelled to chime in to this thread to warn people. My advice to current ticket holders is to try and sell them now before the negative word of mouth starts to spread. There is no saving this disaster."

"Don't get me wrong, Pacino didn't know his lines and I'm sure someone like Raul Esparza or Norbert Leo Butz would have greatly elevated the material, but even a Herculean effort from the world's greatest actor could make this nothing more than tolerable."

There is a pretty well substantiated rumor that Pacino is now wearing an ear piece and someone is feeding him his lines (the same is happening for Bruce Willis in Misery).

There's a great reason to see this show, however. If you love to tell people that you saw Al Pacino live on Broadway, then go. If you're looking for a wonderful evening of theatre, probably stay far, far away.

Regarding Misery, I haven't had any interest in it since its world premiere here at Bucks County Playhouse a couple years ago (with a different cast). It's a weak play, and the burning question is "why take a really great movie and try to recreate it as a stage play?" As much as I LOVE Laurie Metcalf, even that isn't quite enough to make me go see it, and yes, Bruce Willis is getting no real nods for this. The true stars are Laurie Metcalf and apparently the set -- which revolves as the runs through the house.

I haven't heard of anyone saying anything even remotely like "wow. I loved this more than the movie".

I have to admit I'm not interested in China Doll (not because of Pacino) but after seeing many of Mamet's recent Broadway productions I just wouldn't go out of my way to see another, though I like the cast in Race very much and the acting was very strong. I think reading his book The Wicked Son was probably a mistake.

But no, do not want to be disappointed seeing him like this...
