What's near Pace University?
 

We have tickets for this Saturday matinee to see "Right You Are" with Tony Randall at Pace University. It's located at Park Row & Gold Sts. I have no idea what this is near. The show isn't long, 1 1/2 hrs & we'd like to try to stay in that area , maybe even get a bite to eat also.
Any suggestions what's around there walk to?
Are we anywhere near Chinatown?
Heard it's supposed to rain this week end so maybe walking around isn't going to be a good option.

Pace is downtown, directlky acroos the street from NY's City Hall. It's really a business and office area -- a little bit of shoping, but mostly busy during the day.

It is, however, only a short walk from Chinatown and Little Italy.

Pace is easily accessible by subway, using the City Hall stop on the N, Q or R trains or the Brooklyn Bridge stop on the 4,5 or 6 trains.

Century 21 - the great discount shop is not far.

If interested in electronics, computers and music discs a very good store - J & R Music World.

It's also an easy walk over to lower Tribeca - several good restaurants and furniture stores and gorgeous cast iron buildings. Duane Park cafe, Le Zinc, The Harrison, Ecco, Salaam Bombay - good places to eat . . .

There are a few hotels downtown in the financial district if you need those. Club Quarters, The Regent (which is closing in Jan), Seaport Suites.

I like all of mp's restaurant suggestions in Tribeca and will add two more -- City Hall and Le Zinc.

For shopping, try Century 21, the Seaport or J&R (as mentioned before).

Fuleen Seafood is one of our regular haunts. It's at 13 Division Street, just behind Confucius Plaza on the Bowery. It's classic Hong Kong seafood and moderatly priced.

Our current favorite cheap place of choice is at 69 Bayard Street. Don't know the name. It has dolloar bills covering the walls.

If you're feeling adventurous, take a walk up East Broadway, north of Canal and try some of the REALLY cheap Fujianese dives.

one of the best restaurants in Chinatown (at least according to the NY Times restaurant reviewers) is NY Noodletown, which is on the corner of Bayard Street and The Bowery. Classic Chinese place, with roast ducks and pigs hanging in the window, menus in Chinese, communal seating, etc. Great place. Get the salt baked shrimp.

The Bridge Cafe is only about 2 blocks from Pace. People on this board used to recommend it a lot, though I have not tried it yet. There are very few restaurants in that immediate area compared to the rest of Manhattan. Yes, Chinatown is within walking distance, but more than 1/2 mile away, which I would not want to walk if it were freezing and rainy. Of course, it could very easily be reached by a short subway or taxi ride.
