I know this is a little late, but I myself am searching for Skysaver flights to St. Maarten next May (so I can take a ferry over to Anguilla because Delta doesn't fly directly to there). I've only come across one Skysaver flight departing but not returning. What partner airline could I take there? I can fly from JFK or Laguardia. I tried looking at Contintental, but it only had flights from Newark.

I should add I can go anytime in May, there's no specific days.

And it's for two people, I think I made it sound like one.

christine, you need to call Delta in order to use a partner airline. You cannot do it on the website.

Also, sometimes you need to call several times to get the best agent. Don't give up!!

Thanks! I hope I find something.

Can somebody help me figure out what I can do? This is getting frustrating. I called up Delta and they said they had no Skysaver flights between May 7 and May 19, and I can fly from JFK, Laguardia or MacArthur. All they can do is Newark but that is pretty far from me. What else can I do?? She was telling me all the Skysaver flights are gone.

christine79 Oct 10th, 2006 09:07 AM

Sorry, I was looking to fly into Anguilla or St. Maarten for 5 or 6 nights.

Topping.

If flights are available on CO from EWR then that's what I would take. How much farther is it to EWR vs JFK or LGA? Plus with CO, it's a nonstop flight to SXM from EWR. I would much prefer a nonstop rather than a connection via ATL on DL even if it meant a longer drive to the airport.

christine79 Oct 10th, 2006 10:45 AM

It's just that I live far out on Long Island and Newark is pretty far away. And driving there in the morning is probably really awful.

Is it true that no Skysaver flights won't possibly open up in the next few months? The representative said they're all taken, and it's just Skychoice left. So that means if I check everyday, it won't ever change availability?

I passed on a SkySaver flight for too long and it went to SkyChoice, but waited for a while and it went back to SkySaver. That may or may not happen to you but you've got plenty of time before your trip so it might be worth the wait.

It's very possible that availability will change between now and May. I guess it depends on how long you're comfortable waiting and when you need to decide on a date and book accomodations. If no Skysaver seats open up, would you still go on this trip? Would you purchase tickets instead?

If I were committed to this trip and determined to use mileage awards, I'd ticket the CO flights now and waitlist DL flights from JFK or LGA. If that doesn't apply to you, then I would wait.

christine79 Oct 10th, 2006 11:20 AM

I can waitlist a Delta flight after booking a Continental?

I told the representative I would wait and try again later, and she said that the Skysavers are all gone, acting like no more would open up in the future.

I might go to Newark, but my husband won't. He would rather spend the money and book a flight from AA then since that would at least fly right to Anguilla, not St. Maarten like Delta.

Patty Oct 10th, 2006 12:24 PM

Yes, you can waitlist DL operated flights (but not the other way around). I don't know if a reissue fee would apply in this case. From the DL website:

"The service charge does not apply in the following instances:

Award Tickets requiring reissue when waitlist clears to/from same origin and destination"

I would ask them if EWR/JFK/LGA are considered co-terminals for award purposes and qualify as "same origin". Have you been speaking with the partner awards desk?

christine79 Oct 10th, 2006 06:45 PM

I talked to my husband, and he would rather buy tickets than fly from Newark. :(

I talked to Delta. I believe Continental is the only one of their partner airlines that go to Anguilla/St. Maarten and only from Newark.
