What would you do for one night in LV?

We are there on business in January and have a "free" night to spend with another couple from Alabama. He told me to book the night. Ah. I need help. We are staying at the Mandalay Bay and will have the night of Friday, January 21 free to check out the town.

We were also here last year, just didn't get the free night together. We have all been to LV before and seen most of the big sites; fountains, rollercoasters. Probably something "new" or "untried" would be in order.

What sounds fun is to do something really Vegas. Maybe a dinner out, a nice club for drinks before dinner, and nice club or show for after. Nothing really crazy or over the top. Just a little glam and WOW. No Cirque shows or magicians. Any ideas?

Head to the Palms and hit Ghost Bar. Or MIX on top of THEHotel (or is it TheHOTEL?). Probably the best choices for a night of glamor and possible celebrity sightings.

Good ideas. If we go to either, where would you recommend for dinner?

Is the Ghost Bar that cool?

I personally find the Palms a bit desperate-- George Maloof so wants that place to be cool, it's visibly TRYING to be cool. Without the MTV tie-in and the celeb brown-nosing, it's just another off-Strip property. However, its on-site eateries are pretty good, ex. N9NE Steakhouse, Alizé, Little Buddha.

At Mandalay Bay, there's an outpost of Santa Monica's Border Grill, nouvelle Mexican cuisine. Yummy stuff. A quieter, more romantic room is found at Shanghai Lilly, which serves seriously excellent Chinese-American food. There are other upscale places there, but I've actually experienced these two and recommend them.

If you can't think of anything better... night tour of the strip? I don't mean those commercial tour buses, split an evening limo ride.

Now my ignorance is showing, what would we have the limo driver take us? Do what in the limo? I like that idea, but where would we go to make it worth the high roller fee?

Strip and downtown.
