what to wear in So. Cal.
We'll be there (San Diego & LA) the last week of Oct. How casual? Shorts in the daytime? Do they wear dark colors like NY in the fall or is it more resort-like? Would it be best to drive to the Getty Museum or take a cab? We are staying in Santa Monica on the beach.

We stayed on the beach in SM in Aug. It would not be wise to take a cab to the Getty, very $$. Just plan to go early in the day (opens at 10am) and parking won't be an issue. Found the weather very cool for Aug, definitely bring leather jackets for evening if you want to fit in and look cool. People are less fashion conscious IMO in San Diego and therefore somewhat more casual in SD. Comapring to the east, both cities are much more casual than NYC. Hope this helps. We were very happy at Loews Santa Monica by the way.

Parking reservations are required for The Getty on Tues-Friday, 10-4 p.m. You can check their website for more information regarding your visit.

LA's got a laid back, casual look and San Diego even more so. Leather jackets are good for evening, but no need for heavy linings.
You probably won't see many shorts during that time of year. Last week was sweltering hot in the valley area of LA. But this week, it's fall weather. Blue skies and 70 degrees.

I'd be preapred for any kind of weather in the LA Area in Oct. It can be quite warm or it can be cool and every night is cool. It is quite casual here and you can really get by with just about anything. Colors are fine or black is fine - you'll see it all out here. Have a good time!!

as said, bring it all...shorts for the day with t-shirt and light coat sweatshirt to bring along and pants and sweater/coat for the evenings. it may be warm inland a mile or two but walking along the coast can be chilly. i'm still at the beach in october

Been walking up to a lot of foggy cold mornings along the beach here in LA this week. You'll see lots of color and lots of black clothes as well. Anything goes in LA.
Wear comfortable shoes to the Getty. Lots of walking indoors and out. It's not your usual stoggy old museum. The garden is great and do go up to the cactus garden to see a remarkable view of LA.
Pack a few pairs of shorts, but also be prepared with longer pants and a jacket. Our weather can be kind of up in the air during October. Last week it was hot, hot, hot, but today's weather forecast is only 69 degrees. LA and the beaches are cooler while the San Fernando Valley and other inland areas are much warmer.

Message to Linda:
When you're in LA you need to wear the standard size 0 or 2 black spandex mini dress with pointy toed high heels, matching (small) bag, make sure your hair is the right color and style, and don't forget to get a manicure and pedicure. Once that's done, grab a seat at one of Sunset's trendy cafes and look like you are someone. Seriously, I couldn't believe how hungry, pulled, and tucked the grogeous women looked.

Great, Los Angeles needs another wanna be actress/model. Linda please stay home if you're just another obnoxious tourist who wants to flaunt around and be seen. We all ready have too many of your type. Why the hell did you bother to ask about clothing, if you are just going to wear skimpy clothes to show off the bod?

I knew my e-mail would be mis-interpreted. Pulled and tucked to me means all kinds of yucky lines showing. No slim bod here and just because I am always hungry does not mean that I don't eat. LA will be very happy to have me, thank you. I'll make all the young and not so young things look good.

In San Diego, wear whatever you're comfortable in...that's what we do here. Last week of October can be cold (in the 60's) or warm (70+). I know that's not much of a window, but we're not known for our change of seasons.
As far as wearing dark colors or not, if it's clean, it's ironed, it's comfy, we wear it.
Hope you have a great time!
