What to wear in Las Vegas

My two teenagers and I are going to LV for the first time in three weeks. Is clothing there very casual, are shorts and t-shirts okay most places? Should you dress up a little for shows? We're from Florida so we know how to dress for hot weather and we know to drink lots of water.

I've been to Vegas a few times and find it to be pretty casual. Of course you would want to dress up a bit for dinner is a restaurant - but the buffets are certainly open to casual wear.

Dress however you feel confortable! You will probably not be going to the fancy restaurants, so anything goes in Vegas.
Please tell me you are going to Vegas to see what nature has to offer outside of the city? Rent a car and go to Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, Zion NP, Valley of Fire SP. Skip touring the hotels with teens. Las Vegas is not really a place for them!

Please DO NOT WEAR A FANNY PACK! That is all I saw while I was there--senior citizens with fanny packs pushing and shoving their way around to use those stupid coupon books. No fanny packs!

Don't forget comfortable shoes. My gosh--there is alot of walking. More than you think.

Deb, it's going to be incredibly hot there, so dress for the weather. Even though temps are higher in Vegas, the humidity will be a lot lower, so you will probably find it less oppressive than Florida. That said, the sun will be stronger than what you're used to, so I'd recommend wearing light-colored clothes. Plan to spend the hottest hours of the afternoon indoors, or making quick dashes from air-conditioned place to air-conditioned place.

That said, dress is very casual there. Everybody there is on vacation, so nobody is dressing to impress. You'll see lots of people wearing tank tops/muscle shirts/sports bras who really shouldn't. Shorts, t-shirts, and a hat will be fine for most everything.

I agree with CindyLou that you shouldn't miss the natural beauty of the area (Red Rock Canyon is so close, and really beautiful!), but I think you and the kids will enjoy seeing some of the hotels, too. The architecture and design are really worth seeing. I'd particularly recommend New York New York, Luxor, Paris, and Bellagio. You'll all also enjoy the indoor shopping arcades at Caesar's Palace, Venetian, and Aladdin -- even if you're not into shopping, they're definitely worth seeing (and a good way to get out of the afternoon heat).

Don't miss the buffet at Mandalay Bay.

Have a great trip!

Thongs are required in most casinos.
