What to visit in a day in LA

We are staying for 7 days in Anaheim during August and on a previous visit have done 'star homes' tour, which I vowed would never do again. This time we would like to spend a day in LA itself, not the beaches or universal which we have done before. Thinking about Griffith Park, but would welcome any suggestions for a days visit in LA? Thanks

Griffith Park, Olvera Street, Chinatown, La Brea Tar Pits are all classics.

Pick a Sat. or Sun when traffic is lighter and you can do a lot in L.A. in just one day....we once did the Zoo, La Brea Tar Pits, Greystone Mansion and the Getty all in one day (started early!) and still had time for a 7:30pm tv-show taping!

You could go horseback riding under the Hollywood Sign.

Some good ideas for us there. What is driving like around LA at the weekend?

How about the Getty Museum? The views from the Getty (out over LA, the surrounding mountains and the Pacific) are worth the trip even if you are not a "museum person".

Hi,
Curious about the horseback riding.
Do you need to reserve that in advance?
If so, how do I go about that?
Do you know the cost?

There is a stable at the end of Beachwood Canyon and from there you can explore all of Griffith Park. I believe they have a group sunset ride on Friday nights that goes to a Mexican restaurant on the Burbank side which I've never done but sounds fun.

I apologize but I can't remember the name of the stables in Beachwood however. Maybe a Google search? I think they do have a website.

Hi,
I found it on Google: Sunset Hollywood Stables.
Looks like fun!
Thanks.

Santa Monica Pier, Venice, Hollywood (especially Grauman's Chinese Theater), Sunset Strip, and Beverly Hills (including Rodeo Drive) also come to mind.

Driving is OK if you have good maps and a navigator. AAA has great maps of the area.

I agree, the Getty Museum is a must. Beautiful architecture and beautiful views. We chilled there on our last Sunday.
