What to see in Utah
Planning a fall 98 trip to Utah. Any advise on what to see and what to skip, where to stay and where to eat?

that is a big state with lots to see and do, you might want to give amore specific area |
Recommend southern Utah. More to see & do there than I've had time for after many summers out there. I'll be going back again & again. I' try sending you some places & net sites direct.

The area around Moab, Utah, is a great sightseeing area with scenic drives around canyons, rivers, etc.

The essentials: Salt Lake City and the Mormon Temple, Arches National Park and Moab, Bryce Canyon. That should take a minimum of 4-5 days alone. September to early October is a great time to go! Can get unpredictably chilly after that (I went mid October 2 yrs. ago and it was 40 degrees one day in Bryce!). Lots of good food in Moab and SLC. Highly recommend Salt Lake Brewing Company (formerly Fuggles)- a microbrewery with very good food- in SLC. Check out the site citysearchslc.com. Have fun!

Definitely southern Utah! Zion Natl. Park has a nice lodge, also must see Bryce, Capital Reefs, and North Rim of GrandCanyon, you're not that far! There's a little town near Bryce Canyon (12 miles) Panguich, Utah. very small, clean town with nice accomadations
Also Lake Panguich has cabins and fishing. Check it out! For our family, Arches wasn't the best. A lot of walking, but when we were there it was 105 degrees. Have a great vacation!! |
Southern Utah is absolutely awesome, hike at Zion, make the drive from bryce to kodachrome park to boulder to torrey to hanksville to monument valley and then come across northern arizona, whiz thru page and stop in kanab for some fun at the pioneer movie lot. for a great place to stay on the edge of zion, try flannigans.

Thanks for the great advice! Anyone know approximately how far it is to the North rim of the Grand Canyon from southern Utah? Is this also a site we should see. We have never been out west before so thanks for the help.

Park City is awesome. It is a wonderful town, you must go to Main Street. The skiing rocks!!

Southern Utah is a great choice. Lots of things to see. Bryce is my favorite. The Grand Canyon is nice because it is just big. Bryce has much more interesting formations and colors. If I had to chose one place to visit it would be Bryce Canyon. But the great thing about southern Utah is that you don't have to pick just one, because they are all relatively close. If you have never been out West, your in for a treat. It is nothing like the rest of the county. Enjoy and watch out for rattle snakes. We saw one on the trail in Zion.

My family and I went to SLC a year ago to ski Snowbird. Even though I hurt my knee, the skiing was great and the natural beauty was more spectacular than Colorado. SLC itself was interesting and seemed a safe city. The University of Utah, in the Northeast Part of the city, has a great natural history museum. The ancient history of the Salt Lake and the valley is quite interesting. I'm looking forward to going back there to ski again.
