Long Boat Key or Treasure Island?
Our family (from Jacksonville, FL) is looking to spend a week at either Long Boat Key or Treasure Island. We aren't sure which one would be best. Which has more activities for family with two boys (11 and 14) and better beaches?
Thank you!
Thank you!

TI is close to St Pete, Clearwater, etc, so in terms of off-resort activities, it's probably better.
Longboat is great and near St. Armand's Circle ...
Six of one, half dozen of the other.
I'd say much depends on what the specific hotels/resorts you're considering offer.

Longboat Key is much more upscale and posh. Treasure Island is more low key and family style. Treasure Island is close to entertainment such as Busch Gardens, etc. The whole set of islands off of the peninsula there offers quite a bit to do. Longboat Key is more golfing, tennis, etc., and the nearby islands aren't exactly hopping with teen entertainment.
That said, it depends on what your boys and you are looking for. In my opinion, the beaches are much better on Longboat Key. Anna Maria Island, just north of LBK, has lots of family-style ice cream places, restaurants, etc. Just south of LBK you have Mote Marine (which kids normally like, including a nice touch tank), St. Armands Circle (upscale shopping), etc. You are not very far from Sarasota either.
If it were me, I'd head to LBK or Anna Maria Island, just because I like that area better. I know this sounds weird, but it feels "neater" and less crazy than Treasure Island. I like the beaches better also, the sand is really nice. I don't know exactly how the sand is on Treasure Island, but I've been on St. Pete Beach and it was yellow and grainy - yuk.
Anyway, this is purely my subjective opinion. I don't know if it will help any.
