What to see driving from Birmingham to Orlando?

I am thinking Atlanta, Savannah? Any other ideas not to miss along the way?

Do you live in Birminghan? When I lived in Atlanta and had to drive to Birmingham for business the only thing along the way was the big race track off the side of the highway.
I did drive once from Atlanta to Orlando and there is not much of great interest. We did pull off the highway to go buy some local pecans (you will see all the signs, 20 miles to go, 15 miles to go, ect...) and across the street from the pecan store was a cotton field. We had never seen cotton crops in person before, so that was of great interest to us. Other than that, just a highway drive.
I don't think that Savannah is on the way, but it would be a great stop-over point.

Heavens-Is this just a road trip or are you headed to Orlando for a reason?

We were thinking of flying in to Birmingham to see our friends and then heading to Orlando for a convention. This is in mid August, mind you...

Heavens-I lived in B'ham and have made that long drive to Orlando numerous times! There is really nothing to see on the way down, unless you allow extra time for stops! Maybe you can arrange a long layover in B'ham, meet your friends for dinner and then fly to Orlando!
It really is a long boring drive!

I agree w/the others, unless you have time to venture down to the Gulf Coast or over to the East Coast, just stay on the plane.

I think we will fly into Charlston or Atlanta and have our friends meet us. They are always up for a trip somewhere anyway...
