What to pack for July

Hi all- my husband and I are visitng Yellowstone and GTNP for the first time the last two weeks in July. We are horsebackriding, doing a float trip, and of course, day hiking. What kind of weather do you think we will have? Warm days and cool nights? Are jeans too heavy for the daytime?
Thanks for your advice on what to wear.

Jeans work about all the time. Might want to consider shorts for days and Jeans for evenings when it does cool off. Loose clothes are best and don't forget UV protected sunglasses, large-brimed hat with chin strap and sunblock.

You're going to need jeans for horseback riding unless you want to have your legs rubbed raw.

The NPS websites for Yellowstone and GTNP have pages with historical weather averages. That would be a good rough guide for what to expect.

By all means, pack the jeans. The best way to pack for Yellowstone is to think layers, that way you can take off or add as you go through your activities. The mornings are cool as are the evenings and the days can get warm enough for shorts. Hats and tons of sunblock. The sun is tough up there. The water will be very cold on the float trip so be prepared. Remember, this is the Great Outdoors and you have to be prepared. Do log onto the website. They have some great information on weather, etc.

Jackets, sweatshirt and jeans can come in handy in Yellowstone any month during the summer, so can shorts. You could see some cold rain or even wet snow. Morning frost can also be expected. As someone has already mentioned 'think layers'.

Hi, dbldidit,

Can you tell me where you will be doing your float trip? We'd like to do one of these also, when we visit in August, but the only one I've found thus far is near Jackson Hole. Thanks.

Warm layers at night. Jeans are fine, but I would also have shorts or capri's/ cropped pants in case it heats up during the day.

thanks for the advice. We are taking the float trip in GTNP, closer to Jackson Hole.(signal Mountain Lodge)
