What to expect in temperatures in Hawaii.
Leaving for a cruise to several islands in a few days and wonder just how cool it gets in the evenings. I'm putting in rain gear, a light jacket, and a sweater for the dinning rooms but will I need to have more warm things than that?

You will be fine with a sweater and light jacket as long as you do not plan to go into the mountains, such as Haleakela on Maui, it gets very cold at almost 10,000 feet. We had winter coats and were still cold.

Have a great trip.

Just before yout trip go to weather.com
for a 10 day, very detailed forcast. One medium weight all around coat or wrap should suffice for any cold spells. Kauai can get chilly at night, you'll be on the water in the ship, (cooler than on land), and weather systems DO pass through. Otherwise, a pair of lightweight slacks and light jacket should do it for chilliness. The rest? Sundress, shorts and a bathingsuit! Have a great time, but DO check the forcast for EACH of your ports of call.

..........oh, I forgot about Haleakela!
That's on Maui, and the previous poster is oh so right about that! Especially if you go up to watch the sun rise! But I would just buy a few Hawaii souveneer sweatshirts and do layers.

Aloha Katherine, we just returned from the Hawaiian islands. Oahu was around 80 degrees, sunny with scattered light rain, depending on what part of the island you're on. Rain on the islands usually passes quickly and is what keeps everything so green. Maui was about the same. Pack light, shorts, skirts and short-sleeve shirts will suffice. Even in nice restuarants the dress attire is casual. In the evenings, a tropical breeze usually brings the temp. down to mid 70's. Most likely, you will not be cold at night in Hawaii. From previous experience, we know to bring ski jackets/jeans to watch the sun rise on Mt. Haleakala. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, its quite a rush and will take your breath away (not to mention the thin air at 10,000 feet). You have to wake up around 2:30 a.m. because the drive is around 2 hours from Kehei. Have a great trip! Mahalo
