What to do with kids near Newark?

Any suggestions for things to do with an active, 11, 9, and 8 year old near Newark, Delaware? It would have to be a day trip.

It wouldn't have to be a day trip. Why go if you don't want to? You could stay home.

I really don't understand your question. Why go there with children, you don't know what to do with, if you don't have to go?
Just wondering...

I assume that Debbie might be visiting relatives and want s to kill some time with the kids.
Debbie, Newark is right outside of Wilmington, and not too far from Philadelphia, so you've got lots of choices in those two areas (zoo, parks, children's museums, etc)
By the way, you should repost this with a new title--Almost everyone will think you mean Newark NJ near NYC...

DutchWonderland in Lancaster, PA is always fun for the kids - and it isn't too far away - perfect for a day trip

Longwood Gardens. Plenty of walking for active kiddies, and lovely gardens and flowers for you to enjoy. It also has a children's garden which is a little maze that little kids (and some adults) enjoy.

Why do people want to take you out of Newark? The youngsters will have a ball at the public ice skating sessions held at the world-class ice skating areanas on the UofD campus.

Let them play in the center lane of the NewJersey Turnpike. It takes a lot of skill to avoid those 16 wheelers.

I think Jim is thinking Newark, NJ.
Depending on the weather you could always go to 6 flags in NJ exit 8ish off the turnpike, takes about an hour from DE. big roller coasters etc....it will keep them quiet for the ride home. If you are feeling adventureous try the aquarium at Baltimore, MD and as someone previously posted Lancaster is a nice day out.
