What to do in Vermont
 

Hi,<BR><BR>I will be driving through the upper eastern States in July from New Brunswick, Canada. I am spending the night in Montpelier Vermont is there anything we should not miss in the area? We could possibly stay another night if there is lots to see.<BR><BR>Thanks for your help.

Montpelier is a very charming, small city whith some great places to eat - Sarducchi's is one of the best Italian places I've ever been to anywhere. Vermont doen't have lots of 'tourist attractions' but there is Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory in Waterbury, Billings Farm Museum in Woodstock, and the Morgan Horse farm near Middlebury. Vermont's Green Mountains are laced with some great hiking trails, and there are swimming holes nearly everywhere - just ask. The back roads of Vermont offer some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere in the country.

If you like cheese, stop by the Cabot Creamery in Cabot, about 20ish minutes east of Montpelier.<BR>I second the restaurant suggestion! I'm dying to try River Run Cafe in Plainfield (a couple towns East of Montpelier) as it's gotten rave reviews.<BR>After visiting the B & J factory as previously mentioned, you could continue on up Route 100 to Stowe. Hike/drive/take the gondola up Mt. Mansfield for some awesome views. Rent a bike or inline skates and take on the 5.5 mile long recreation path. Drive through Smuggler's Notch. Over in Barre is the Rock of Ages Granite Quarries. If you like geology, it's a cool place to visit.

Thank you for your help, this may sould like a really stupid question but I was reading a article last night about tick's in the Northeastern states..is this a problem..we will be travelling in mid to end of July...<BR><BR>Thanks again.<BR>

Unless you're going to be hiking/walking etc through woods and fields, you should not have a problem. The only time I ever find ticks on me is when I hike.

I have hiked for many years in VT and NH and have yet to see a tick on me. I don't believe they are very common this far north. You might run into some deer flies in the woods, but nothing of any concern.
