what to do in the St. Louis area Oct.12 thru Oct19
We are going to be in the St. Louis area in Oct for a wedding. After the wedding we will have around a week to do some site seeing. My Husband and myself are both in are late fiftys and like visiting casinos. landmarks etc... We will have a car so driving anywhere won't be a problem so if anyone has any suggestions please let us know.

Is it too early to make a Ferguson joke here?
But seriously there is a land based casino in the Laclede's Landing (and one across the river) (years ago, it was only a riverboat casino). Kind of unique (since you'll have a car) are the Cohokia Indian Mounds in Ill (near STL).

There are wineries in St. Charles County, not far at all from St. Louis - http://www.historicstcharles.com/things-to-do/wineries/ I know Mt. Pleasant has weekend music on the patio.
If you go to Cahokia Mounds, you could then drive up the Great River Road to Grafton, stopping by Fast Eddie's Bon Air in Alton for a really cold one. If you are not into bar food, My Just Desserts on Broadway has great homemade soups, sandwiches and salads -- and pie! There is also a casino in Alton, the Alton Belle. Continue up the Great River Road past Grafton to Pere Marquette Park. It could be the perfect time for fall color.
http://www.greatriverroad.com/attractions.htm should give you some more ideas.
Enjoy your trip!

Visit the Bonne Terre mine- they flooded the mine and it is now a dive site, but you can do walking tours too -- as you walk, there will be a visible fault line overhead
