What to do in Sausalito?

I'm going to S.Fco. with a friend and we'd like to visit Sausalito as we've always heard it's a beautiful place.

Any suggestions on what to do there?

I did some research online but nothing much came up apart from a pottery factory, Children's Museum, the woods and wooden boat tours.

We like art, good food and any local things of interest.

Ideas please?

They have some restaurants and shops in Sausalito, but our best memory was the ferry ride to/from.

We discovered a very good/reasonably priced Thai restaurant down the street to the right as you get off the ferry in a little square/mall. If you want seafood on the water, it's a little more pricy. ((b))

Was in Sausalito back in May and it is beautiful. We spend a couple of hours there just walking around and enjoying the views. I drove there but as Budman suggested it may be nice to take the ferry. What time of the year are you going. When we went it was a sunny day but it was cold!

well depending on how ambitious you are, you can bike over the Golden Gate Bridge one way and take the ferry back.

There are some nice restaurants with water views- Horizons is the one I enjoy going to because it has a great deck with heat lamps.

I wasnt really impressed with shopping there

We also drove to a lookout overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge - its an old fort area, interesting and gives you some great photo opportunities of the bridge and the city.

Sausalito is a pretty city but not an interesting one. The shops are expensive and touristy and there's not that much to do. I'd take the ferry over, if you can, have lunch, pop into a few of the shops, and just soak up the view.
