What to do in Sacramento?
I'm taking my 14 year old daughter to Sacramento from 30 June to July 6 for Fencing Nationals. We'll have a few days where she's not doing any competing and we're wondering how we should spend our free time. We won't have a car and will need to rely on public transportation
Thanks! |
We like Old Sacramento--a very colorful historic neighborhood. The top attractions are the California State Railroad Museum, the State Capitol, and Sutter's Fort State Historic Park. There is much more, of course. Waterworld, the Governor's Mansion, and Arden Fair shopping mall.

San Fran Dudes :
We've done the gay bar scene to death. Sorry. |
Happytrails has given a nice list. There is a also a nice zoo in Sacramento that we like. Have fun! ***kim*** ((#))

It looks like you'll be near the convention center for this event if you are not renting a vehicle.
You will be pretty close to the IMAX theater. The Downtown Plaza is a straight shot down K street so you can shop on 3 floors of the women's Macys and take in a movie at the theater near there. If you continue walking you will go under the freeway and into Old Sac. The railroad museum is located there. There is no point in taking the train excursion down the track so don't be fooled out of your money. You can take the River Otter Taxi up the Sacramento to Crawdads or Chevy's for a break from your location with no car. The round trip is about $6 and 30 minutes each way. The Music Circus will be showing Beauty and the Beast beginning on the 5th is you are interested in Theater productions. It's just a few blocks from the convention center. Just my opinion but I would not go to Sutter's Fort in the summer as it is an unshaded hot hot hot and dusty place. |
looks like your regular trips to portland for tournaments have paid off. congrats to your daughter for making nationals, and good luck to her!
byw, just gotta ask, where did you two end up staying in portland? |
