What to do in NYC tomorrow...snow!

Hi everyone!
My husband and I will be going to NYC tomorrow morning (coming from PA). We were going to drive, but it looks like we'll be taking the train with all of this snow. We are seeing a show (rent) at 2pm & then we were going to go to the hotel (Courtyard Midtown East) & then go get some dinner.

We have done a trip like this many times, but never in bad weather. I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for something we could do after dinner? We usually walk around, go in stores, have a drink, etc.

Also, if anyone has any restaurant suggestions, that would be great. We were originally thinking of just walking & finding somewhere to go, but now it might be best to stick close to the hotel???

Thanks:)

The streets are really messy but it's not snowing at the moment. It may ice up a little later, but walking around shouldn't be too bad tomorrow, and you can do your usual stuff. The subways are running OK , and the buses should be fine by then too. Things were rougher this morning when the snow was still coming down heavily.

BUT make sure you have warm, waterproof boots with good traction! When the snow melts, you will have huge slushy puddles at every corner.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. The snow has stopped and is already melting and disappearing. There is a slight chance of snow showers in the morning. It could still be slushy so leave your suede heels at home! But I think you'll be able to get around just fine.

1. A movie at the Ziegfeld
2. A foreign film at the Angelica
3. Dessert and coffee at Max Brenner
4. The Oakroom for drinks and entertainment
5. Check Time Out NY for entertainment at any of the piano bars downtown

I love NYC in the snow. Head over to Central Park. Drink lots of coffee. Go to a museum you've never been to before.

Jazz after dinner? Lots of choices either midtown (Birdland, Iridium, Dizzy's Coca Cola) or downtown if you prefer. Brasserie Julien on the ues has food and music. Head up on 3rd ave. bus or a taxi.

Actually, there's a rest. near your hotel I've never tried that has live music.

If you like mussels, a place I like near your hotel is Jubilee.

Bistro Desaret is also close and good.

Thanks so much for all of the suggestions! You all have made me feel much better:)

One change: I just tried Priceline & got the Broadway Millenium for $75 less than the Courtyard I had booked.

Thanks again:)

Buy a shovel at the Home Depot on 23rd Street and shovel my walkway.

Buy a copy of Time Out NY and they have an extensive listing of music, drama, comedy, bars, etc. (for all tastes) and many free activities. There is a never a shortage of things to do in NYC, especially on a Saturday night.

Try Veniero's of Chickalous for dessert.

Birdland and Iridium are much closer to your hotel now. ;) Don't Tell Mama is a fun piano bar on resetaurant row (46 st b/w 8th & 9th ave.) They also have a cabaret show.

Chez Josephine might be fun for dinner. They have live music starting at ~ 8 pm.

We've had many cannolis and delicious cheesecakes at Veniero's on 9th Street and 1st Ave.

But can somebody here tell me what on earth "Veniero's of Chickalous", as mentioned earlier on this thread, is?

mclaurie Feb 23rd, 2008 05:49 AM

I think the "of" is supposed to be "or".

Aduchamp1 Feb 23rd, 2008 06:38 AM

Thank you. Yes that should have been an "or".

Then if I assume correctly, the other place being mentioned is Chikalicious, another dessert place in the EV at 2nd and 10th.

I'm not being fuzzy with spellings, but just want to do my bit for those who may want to Google.

I have failed spelling since the second grade. There are certain habits one just enjoys.
