What to do in Naples?
We are going to Naples soon. Where are some good places to visit!?!?!?!? Thanks

What do you like to do? shopping? outdoor activities? beach walks/kayak/hikes/ -
In Naples I like shopping/walking Third Street shops, galleries, etc and eating at Campiello's (great chocolate dessert!)... Waterside Shops also for regular/chain and some boutique shopping. Two good web sites to start are www.thirdstreetsouth.com - and www.naples-florida.com they list all the shops, attractions, etc. You are also near Marco Island, if you'll have a car, and depending on how long you are there - Tiger Tail Beach is a nice place to go and walk the length of the beach to the hotel strip - stop there for a drink/lunch at outside cafe - and walk back - calm waters, nice sand bar if tide is right, great shells and sand dollars. Also kayak trips at sunset to the ABC islands to see the birds come back to roost, day trips to uninhabited islands that are bare except for wildlife and shells, - also near Marco is isle of Capri and old fishing villages/rustic snook inn. there is boating/ rentals/ day trips/excursions - is there something particular you want to see? some like those rides through the Everglades, they kill my ears....but... if into history, the Edison house in Ft. Myers.... what every you do watch the sunsets if weather is good at one of the beaches on Naples or Marco, they are lovely. |
Do NOT miss a trip to Corkscrew Swamp. It's really beautiful and unusual.
I always feel a little isolated in Naples (I live in Tampa). But you can't beat a walk on the beach for quiet relaxation. And Miami could easily be a day trip. |
In addition to the other suggestions:
Beachwalks. All of them. Beachwalks south from the pier take you by many interesting houses and mansions. You can walk all the way to the end of the beach peninsula and back easily in a morning. Hanging out at the pier on Sunday afternoon to see all races and conditions of men. Going to the Everglades on 41. I understand Everglades City and Chokaluskee had storm damage but they otherwise are very interesting. Is the historic general store still there in Chokuluskee? Eat at the little cafe in Chokoluskee (yes, I realize I have spelled it 3 ways and still don't know which is right) or at one of the fish market/cafes in Everglades City. Go east of EC about 8 miles on 41 for a great alligator viewpoint. Etc. |
Tandoori Girl -yes, going across to Miami is easy on "alligator alley' now - do you remember the days when it was one lane, no breakdown and no lights? yikes, I hated that. Maybe you remember, I haven't done that in awhile - but wasn't there a large outlet shopping/ if OP is looking for that - I want to say Sawmill or Swampgrass or something that was huge - I am remembering it was as you got close to MIami or Ft L?
I do know there are more outlets now even on the road to Marco Isl. Personally, I'd rather be on the beach or in one of the sanctuaries/swamps/ as you mentioned, but if they get a rainy or lousy day....shopping can save the day if they are into that. |
All of those are great suggestions. Unless you are going to Naples, Maine. In which case I would recommend the Naples Lobster Pound which is my favorite restaurant in the country.
