What to do in nantucket?

I am going with a cousin to Nantucket soon. What shall we do over there? What is there to see??? I live on the cape, but have never been to Nantucket. Is it like Martha's Vineyard?? thanks for all replies.
Also ,,,any good restaurants?? are things still open after labor day>>>

Trying to turn to the questions at hand, try looking on
nantucketonline.com for info.
Have never been to Martha's Vineyard but I gather Nantucket is smaller & more quaint, overall. It's a fabulous place.

The restaurants are fantastic, but expensive. The top places are
21 Federal
Company of the Cauldron
American Seasons
Toppers at Wauwinet
The Summer House (more for atmosphere than food, but good food)
Chanticleer
Cliffside Beach
and 2 newer places The Pearl & Oran Moran.

There is a recent thread discussing these restaurants. Try a text search for Nantucket AND restaurants.

Several old homes are now museums (the Macy house is one name I remember) that are wonderful to tour for history of the island as well as art & antiques. Great shopping too. I've usually been there about now, just after Labor Day & everything is still open but much less crowded & easier to get rest. reservations.

Sunny,
For what its worth; its a great
place to bike ride. Paved bike trails
pretty much go everywhere. It takes an hour to bike out to Sconset. That is really a beautiful village. Some great homes & gardens to view; then bring a book and towel to enjoy the uncrowded beach. In the evening bike out to the West end to enjoy a great sunset.
We have never had a bad meal there.
Even at the "cheaper" places...
We're going next week again BUT we may
also try Block Island.
I just posted under Rhode Island looking for comparisons between the two.
Regards,
Pete

...Sunnydelite, the recs. about 21 Federal and American Seasons are right on the mark. Also, when we were there two years ago, riding bikes was the big thrill - 2-4 hours each day gave us a great way to see some of the island. Perhaps the folks with the humor didn't mean anything, were merely saying howdy, and may not have any info. on N. Have a nice trip.
