what to do in lewes de on a cloudy day.

This is what I did. I got up and left the Driftwood Motel on my bike for a first thing swim in the bay. I feel strongly that you need to get your swim in first thing so if it rains or if you get run over by a bus at least you got in your swim. You can put your beach chair on your bike rack, secured with a bungee cord, and sit on the chair at the beach so people don't think you're a homeless person. It might also be reassuring to people if you look at your phone while sitting in your beach chair. Don't just look at your phone if you only have a flip phone. Anyway, after a quick dip I biked back to the lovely route 1 for breakfast at Bob Evans but it was too crowded so I had a mcmuffin at burger king. Then (finally some useful information) I drove to Prime Hook Nature Refuge just north of lewes and hiked around. Very pretty boardwalk trails. Would be a nice place to kayak. Bought horseshoe crab earrings for dw. Smaller than life size (the earrings, not dw). Then back to lovely route 1 and the driftwood motel for lunch. I'm in lewes to look at a house we won't buy even though it's really nice but we're too chicken. Now it's not just cloudy, it's raining. I would rather nap than outlet shop. I'd rather sit on the beach in my beach chair in the rain than outlet shop.

My Dad loved seeing those. You should buy, it is a great area and prices just go up. I have only one Aunt left that lives in Rehoboth but loved Lewes, Go to Milton and visit Dogfish brewery.

Flpap, thanks for the added rainy day activities. Did you know dogfish turned the old vesuvius motel in lewes into a snazzy new inn?

The story of Dogfish's success is an interesting one. I know the owner. Nice guy who worked hard and deserves the success.

No, I did not know that. Eat at their place in Rehoboth. Friends supply the beef and turkey and it is great. I am going to go look at the motel. Thank you. It has been a year since going and now that my parents are gone probably won't venture back often.

http://www.dogfishinn.com/ Wow, love it and learned something new, Be careful if you do the brewery tour, you will get a buzz!

There's a new bike trail through Henlopen State Park that goes to the northern end of Rehoboth. Easy and well maintained. And no busy streets nearby.

If I could pick anywhere on the mid-Atlantic coast to have a beach home it would be in Lewes.

The bike trail to Rehoboth is great. ThanKS for the link to the inn site. I'm happy for the owner and for lewes with a new upscale place to stay, but I have to say it's considerably more expensive than the old vesuvius motel.

santamonica--

Thanks for the suggestion of Lewes. So close to my parents' beach rental in Bethany Beach where I visited this past Friday through Sunday, but I've yet to visit. We certainly had beautiful weather this past weekend!

Best wishes, Daniel

I like Bethany too. We've rented a townhouse with friends at hidden harbor in Bethany on ocean parkway for a long time. It's interesting how the Delaware beach towns have different personalities.

Great discussion. I tried Dogfish brew but haven't explored all their ventures in DE. DE in the summer is so dreamy and perfect.

This report brought back memories of a camping trip to Cape Henlopen one August many years ago. It was nearly 100 degrees, we were in a tent. There were sandfleas that bit us all night long. I used bug spray all night long in the tent and there were hundreds of dead sandfleas in the morning. We had a rip roaring storm that blew down our friends tent and scared the heck out of us. We ended packing up and staying at a cinderblock motel nearby that was clean and air conditioned. We were in heaven.

That was one of our last camping trips.

I also prefer to sit on the beach or bike rather than outlet shop. We can't pull the trigger on a beach house either.
