I just wanted to second the recomendation of the Amana Colonies. Great German food served family style, many wineries, woolen mill, furniture factory (with 100 year waranty), wonderful smoked meats (take an ice chest), museum, gift shops.

The mall is Coral Ridge not Carol Ridge...sorry. I agree with the Amana Colonies suggestion(s) also. The Hoover Presidential library in West Branch is a nice little diversion or if you want more "college" fun, go to the Pedestrian Mall on campus and shop the unique stores and visit tha campus "nightlife", great bars!

Welcome to Iowa City. I hope you stay is pleasant and rewarding. May I suggest the website for the IC and Coralville Convention and Visitors' Bureau (www.icccvb.com) for a starter?
The website also has a "Contact" link to the office which is located right at the First Avenue-Coralville Exit on I-80, which is between the Coral Ridge Exit in Coralville and the Dubuque St. Exit in Iowa City. BTW, the best exit to get to the Carver Hawkeye Arena will be the Coralville-First Ave Exit. The people in the Tourist Office are very helpful and informative. The phone number is on the website. The 7 Amana Colonies,(which are fascinating with an assortment of long-time great restaurants with food served Family Style. Plan to spend most of your time in Main Amana) (www.amanacolonies.org). Also, the Herbert Hoover Presidential Museum and Gravesite, the Old Capitol Building (IC was the Territorial Capital of Iowa), and the Univ of Iowa Art Museum and Natural History Museum are among the sightseeing sites available.

Riverside, 20 miles south of Iowa City, is the future birthplace of James T. Kirk (Captain of the Starship Enterprise).
They have a starship in the middle of town and some Star Trek related stuff. Several citizens have changed their names, to, e.g. Smith-Kirk and Jones-Kirk.
I kid you not.
