What to do in Fells Point
 

We live in Maryland and have been to Baltimore several times. However, we're going to Fells Point this weekend for the first time, and we'll be staying at the Admiral Fells Inn. Any recommendations for what to do and see will be appreciated.

Lots of bars & restaurants in the area. Be sure to stop in and "Eat Bertha's Mussels." ((b))

It's a more residential area and not as many tourist sights as Inner Harbor. It's a better area for staying because the restaurants are better (and cheaper) than those around the Inner Harbor.

Skip Bertha's - an overpriced tourist trap who's quality went way downhill 25 years ago and hasn't climbed back yet. There are a hundred other options close by.

Walk the charming residential streets, check out the shops and cafes along Broadway. Check out the Broadway Market. Stop at Vaccaro's in Little Italy for dessert - don't miss this! The Water Taxi from Fells Point to Inner Harbor is more pleasant than the walk - your ticket is good for all day and you can use to go to other areas of the city as well.

Wanted to add - don't walk from your hotel to the Inner Harbor, Little Italy, or other areas of the city. The Fells Point neighborhood is charming and just fine, but some of the surrounding neighborhoods are less so.

A taxi cab is less than $5 and a good idea.

This is a historic area of Baltimore where Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass once lived. I find it's fun area for strolling; grab a coffee with the somewhat-Bohemian crowd at Daily Grind, go for lunch at Ze Mean Bean Cafe or have some good sushi at Kawasaki's right on the waterfront. Ditto on Broadway Market; drop in and get a calzone. Taking the water taxi to Fort McHenry or the Inner Harbor can also be a fun way to relax on a pleasant afternoon.

There's a nice cafe called Bonaparte Breads over near where the Seaport Taxi picks up passengers on Ann Street. I'm not sure if they're running this time of year, but the Fells Point ghost tour was fun and neat way to see the neigborhood. If you're a fan of small funky record stores Soundgarden is a fun place to browse.
