Harbison Blvd - Home to Columbiana Center Mall and loads of restaurants. If you're into zoos at all, Riverbanks is a nice one, off Greystone Blvd.
There are historical tours offered downtown. Also in town is the Vista area, with a lot of neat restaurants, antique shops, etc.

We were in Columbia for a family event and like you wanted to make something of the visit. Columbia was very quiet and we opted to drive down to Charleston and take the plane back from there. I loved Charleston and it remains one of my favourite cities in the US.

Columbia is a beautiful city and has much to offer. Don't miss seeing the two murals on the sides of buildings. One is of a road giong into the sunset that people have actually tried to turn onto. The other is of trains.
Contact the Columbia CVB for info. They are great people and will be very helpful. I recently attended a reunion seminar in Columbia and the CVB people were tops.

Harbison Boulevard??? Are you daft? That is the ugliest part of the city.
The museum is nice for about two hours. Go shopping and walk along Gervais Street in the Vista. The art museum is very close to the University of South Carolina. The public library downtown is fascinating and huge. Go to the park downtown (name escapes me).
