What to do in Co mountain vacation with teens?

Now we are discussing going to Co. It will be either CO or Whistler. I think CO would be easier. Tour around the Rockies. We have been to Durango, Silverton, and a few other towns. What else should we see on the eastern side?

And any suggestions on where to stay? Condo? Resort? We aren't into horses or big hiking. Scenery, a little shopping, fishing, rafting, and eating. Maybe check out Boulder for college ideas. Is Denver worth a stop? Thanks in advance. It has been a long time since I have been to the beautiful state of CO.

Colorado Springs would be a good choice. Ride up the tram to Pikes Peak, see Garden of the Gods, etc. You could go a bit out of town to see the Royal Gorge as well. There is good rafting in the area. Lots to do and a variety of accommodations.

I've always found Steamboat Springs to be a great time. We rented a house using VRBO.com last summer for 3 nights off Steamboat Lake and we all had a blast. Plenty of things to do in that area, and you could kill a night in denver, get up early and be in steamboat by lunchtime.

Glenwood Springs is also a great choice. It's not far from Aspen. Has awesome hot springs, natural as well as a hot springs pool. My personal favorite is the Hotel Colorado where the hot springs pool is located. Supposed to be haunted, but I've searched and never found any ghosts, probably a good thing! There are also tons of caves where you and the kids can go "splunking" if I spelled that correctly. I'm in my 30's and did that a couple years ago and would love to do it again. Have fun!

I agree with Rosemary that Glenwood Springs would be a great location for a family vacation.

We've done 2 loop drive vacations in Colorado. (We started in Denver and made a huge circle back. Well, maybe more like a lop-sided oval). We agreed that every trip to Colorado should include a stop at Glenwood Springs. I love the atmosphere there. I think a great base would be around Keystone or Breckenridge. There is an alpine slide in Breck, outlets nearby, and you can do a great whitewater trip on the Arkansas.

We went through Glenwood Springs several years ago and it was beautiful. We only spent 1 night there, but it has been on my list of places to go back to ever since. We almost went a few years ago, but plans fell through.

What I would really like to do is take the California Zephyr from the SF Bay Area to Glenwood Springs, spend a few days and then take the train back.

Someday.
