What to do in Central Park?

We will be travelling to the New York Youth Orchestra Festival and will stay a few additional days at the end of June. We would like to explore Central Park in between rehearsal times. What attractions there would you recommend for us? We will have three young teens with us.

Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art
(1000 Fifth Avenue at 82nd Street
General Information: 212-535-7710)

You could head to the Boat House and rent a row boat on the lake ($10/hr) or rent remote sailboats on the pond ($10/hr).

If you want to do some shopping, head to the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle.

Have fun!

Just walk.
There is a Boathouse that is wonderful, a Childrens Zoo and acres and acres of bridges and shady spots and sunny fields and rocks and lakes and a Castle and ball fields and interesting people to look at and dogs galore and ices to be bought and nice walks that lead you to interesting statues and beautiful trees and you can go from the East Side to the West Side and on and on :)

The zoo is not just for children - although they do have a petting zoo section just for kids. It is a small zoo - but definitely good for an hour or so for anyone interested in animals.

Also - the Museum of Natural History and the planetarium abut the park at CPW and 77/81st. The new dino exhibit is a great hit - but there are also fantastic exhibits on human evoluation, a wonderful exhibit of gem stones and minerals and an IMAX theater with several different movies daily.

Sorry - also - you can rent bikes for riding - and depending on how you're traveling kids might want to bring skates/skateboards.

The carousel is near the zoo and is good for adults and children. My college-age niece found it surprisingly speedy.

Totally agree with Scarlett.

A great "walk in the park".

Since they like music, Strawberry Fields. ((8))((8))
