What to do besides French Quarter
Would appreciate any advise.
We will be in NO for a few days next week. We are traveling with our 5 year old daughter, so Bourbon St. is out (at night anyways). We plan on going to the Aquarium, but I would like to get out into the country--bayou, swamps, whatever you call them. A few years ago, we did an airboat tour and had a great time, but I don't think my daughter would enjoy--she hates loud noises. Any suggestions about some parks, site, etc nearby? (An hour or so is fine) WOuld like to be able to walk around, take a boat ride (if possible) etc. ANy suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Merci |
oops! I meant ADVICE!

Mardi Gras World in Algiers
Celebration in the Oaks at City Park (complete with kiddy-oriented Storyland) Audubon Zoo (one of nation's best) French Market (lots of crap to buy) swamp (non-airboat!) tour Louisiana Children's Museum on Julia St. riverfront park (kids usually like watching the ships) Jackson Square entertainers Canal and/or St. Charles streetcars (kids like trains!) |
Louisiana has more alligators than any other state (including Florida).
So how 'bout some gator 'rasslin? |
Our 4-year-old loved:
- Taking the riverboat to the zoo, visiting the zoo, then riding the streetcar back to our hotel in the French Quarter - Having breakfast (every morning) at Cafe du Monde - Taking the ferry across the Mississippi and visiting Mardi Gras world - Jackson Square and all the street performers - The Aquarium (I wasn't so interested in this) We didn't do a swamp trip, as we thought that it would last too long for him and his baby sister. Have fun! |
definitely do a swamp tour. Interesting for you as well as 5 year old
