What to bring back from Maui?
Leaving soon for Maui. Always like to bring back a memonto from my travels. Could be expensive or could be cheap, such as my Eiffel Tower for my desk that you guys suggested (in fact I brought them home for everyone and they loved them). What would you suggest?

I love nice jewelry, so I usually buy myself something in that area - last time was a beautiful Australian opal ring. I also usually buy some clothes from where else? Hilo Hatties. Also have brought back Hawaiian coffee for the coffee lovers & some good Maui made wine.

They have some beautiful coral jewelry in Maui. I bought a ring there years ago. We also bought a coral "tree" on one of our trips. Very unique. <BR><BR>One of our favorite things is a Maui sunrise picture that we took and then enlarged and framed. Absolutely beautiful. I am instantly transported back there everytime I look at it.

When we were in Maui, we found an artist in one of the galleries (he is a Hawaiian artist) that makes these "wish" jars. They are very unique - not THAT expensive (maybe $300) and really interesting. They have an oriental look about them. I saw them in several galleries... Every time I see it, I think of our vacation - and we also put some wishes in there....<BR>

Bamboo & gourd wind chimes, some nice one's around. There's a craft fair on Saturdays (I think) in Wailuku, also people sell handcrafts under the Banyan tree in Lahaina (forget which day). Have a great trip.

A Dashboard hula girl. I brought one back for some friends and myself. I keep it on my shelf at work along with all my other tacky tourist mementos :)

What you don't want to bring back are any rocks, sand, or pebbles from the islands. Perhaps it is just urban legend but stories abound of home break-ins, bad surgeries, dead pets, lost jobs, failed businesses, broken bones, bad accidents, etc. when tourists bring natural souvenirs home with them. The National Park Service and many Hawaiian businesses receive packages with rocks being returned to the islands. If you are skeptical do an Internet search on "black rocks bad luck" or the "curse of Pele". In any case it is better to leave the natural beauty there for future generations.

I brought back some small peices of drift wood 10-12 inches long. I also took sand from each beach ( when it was different from others) and small shells, etc, and i hot glued the names of each person on the drift wood sprinkleing the sand on the glue before it dried. And then decorated the drift wood with shells and small coral, rocks etc. Put a eye hook in the top with a chain to hang up and gave them to all my loved ones and one for my wife and i to share, and we look at it often while sitting on our back patio, dreaming of our trip and our next visit to paradise.Of course we bought all the other things and they are great, but everyone really cherishes the drift wood. Have a great adventure. nick
