for Richmond visitor info. I think you both might like the Museum of Science, located in the former Union Station. You might like the Botanical Garden. A walk around the Capitol, and take in a tour of the building itself is nice. There's a Edger Allen Poe house, a Civil War Museum, Black History Museum, Childrens' Museum, an aviation museum near the airport, and if you're driving. There's a few grand old hotels that are worth a visit, even if you're not staying at them.

Named for its streets that fan out from downtown, The Fan District is said to be the largest intact Victorian neighborhood in the United States and encompasses more than 100 city blocks. And also drive down Monument Avenue, called "one of the most beautiful streets in America,".

My next visit will include the National Park Service Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site - she was a remarkable woman who lead early African-American progress in the area.

Of course, there's also nearby plantations and Civil War sites .. check out Hopewell and Petersburg.

For a day outside of Richmond, head N on I95 to Kings Dominion Park--similar to Busch Gardens...
Only 1/2 hr N of Richmond

and 40 min E of Richmond is Williamsburg, where you can tour the restored area of Williamsburg, or do
Busch Gardens---

Thanks, it sounds like maybe I should head up to Alexandria and do Washington D.C. as well.

PegDog, don't do that (pop up to Alexandria) if you're driving any time between Fri. morning and Sunday midnight! Take the train or do that trip midweek and avoid rush hours. I-95 between Alex. and Richmond is automotive armageddon. And now armageddon-along.... (sorry, hot Friday and foggy brain).
