What time would I have to leave Carmel to make 11am flight San Jose on a Tues.

Trying to decide if can stay last night in Carmel or should stay by airport. Flight leaves at 11am on a Tuesday. How long do you think it would take to drive from Carmel to San Jose at that time of morning?
Thanks

i posted almost the exact same question last year. I was worried about morning traffic for a 11:00 or 12 a.m. flight and nothing ever materialized--we breezed up the freeway in a little over and hour and wished we had spent more time at Carmel beach before we left. The heavy traffic is earlier so stay in Carmel.

You could probably leave by 8am. You would take Hwy 101 - not Hwy 1 to Hwy 17 - way too much traffice that way. Perhaps others can comment on the 101 traffic.
It's just always such a crap shoot as to whether there will be a tie-up or accident.....

It's a little more than one hour to the airport. Take 1N then 156E to 101N towards San Jose. Traffic shouldn't be a problem that time of the morning. Much nicer enjoying the Carmel area than staying at the airport.

Highway 87 will be closed Sept. 12 and 13 so while you may not be planning on using 87 anyway, the other roads may have more traffic. Maybe you aren't coming this week???

Can't wait!

Check the San Jose airport web site for advice about how early you need to get there to go through security--it can be VERY slow.

Don't know whether you've been to Carmel before. If not, here's a restrurant tip for that last nite--Casanova. One of the most romantic restaurants anywhere and wonderful food. In the heart of Carmel. We've been going there every 2-3 years for the past 25+ years and never had anything but perfect meals.

Ronda, my source says 87 will be closed much longer than that for paving/widening. What is your source?

Well, we did stay our last night in Carmel. Left at 7:45 and reached the airport rental return in plenty of time at about 9:10 including a stop for gas. Rental car return took forever because somebody had supposedly already returned the car that we had! Security took about 20 mins to get through. Had time to sit down and eat some breakfast. Made our 11:05 flight with no issues. Thanks everyone. Didn't take you up on the most romantic restaurant because we had our 5-year old with us
