This evening's imbibement- hardly poisonous, always comforting- Canadian Iceberg Vodka.
A reversal of the norm when considering a mis-pack for San Fran...I spent 2 weeks last August warning the family not to pack shorts and tees for a week in SF. Little did I know, September might be the exception. Oops! We sweated through every day of up-hill, down-hill hikes and strolls. With the exception of Son and I at the ballpark one evening, never needed a long sleeved item the whole time. Go figger.

I found Ireland in May and New Orleans in January to be wayyy colder than what I had packed for. Probably because 50 degrees & damp feels more like 25 degrees!
I found San Diego to be quite the opposite. I know it's about 70 degrees there all the time, so I packed lightweight pants and lightweight - but long sleeved - blouses. No good! It WAS 70 degrees but felt like 85 with all that sunshine. I bought some great summery outfits there.
I also found that khakis in Europe peg you as an American tourist. Even if you're not wearing them with white sneakers.

GoT--I think I saw you guys in the Keys that year...hehe
My bad packing...egads, have done that more than once. Wanna hear about the time I was a bridesmaid and forgot to pack the superdooper strapless bra? That was not good b/c Dolly Parton and I have two things in common and one of them is not my singing voice...Can't just run to the local Wally World when you're me.
Or the time a a bunch of my friends and boyfriend decided to drive from W. Palm Beach (where I lived at the time) to Orlando for a weekend with Mickey. It was January. It was a nice warmish morning when we left WPB in shorts and arrived 3hrs later to temps in the 40s--I guess a cold front moved in or was sitting over Central FL. I had one pair of pants and a long-sleeved shirt w/me but no sweatshirts or jacket. It was damp and windy and cold! We all ended up buying Disney sweatshirts but that really wasn't warm enough. We drank lots that weekend so didn't care after awhile but did end up w/Bronchitis. (Oh and of course, dressed as a dork, I ran into 2 ppl from home (NY) that w/e--one a friend of my little brother's and the other was my dentist!)

My well travelled children have taught me to pack appropriately and efficiently in the last 20 years.

Oh, Statia,
Please try the '04 J&F Lurton Pinot Gris from Argentina. PJ Wine in NYC sells it for $6.49.
Their dad, Andre, makes some really great white Bordeaux.
Other than one or two IT Friulian producers, their Pinot Gris is as good as any except the very great Alsatians.
I am biased to Alsace, but imho, all labelled Pinot Gris are "better" than those labelled Pinot Grigio (same grape).

Funny question. OK, poison is iced tea, or sweet tea as many would call it.
On our last cruise, an awards trip with my husband's company, we are on a Radisson ship. Pretty nice, dressy but not formal. Well, in the suite I open my bag and my first thought was that one of the baggage handlers must have opened my case and stolen some of my clothes. Then, I think, "why would someone do that?"
I realized in my effort to not over pack, which I am ALWAYS guilty of, I took out way too many things and left myself very short handed for pants and shirts.
Thank God for the laundry service on the ship or I would have been wearing dirty clothes for a few days.
Underpacking for me was a first!

Hi Statia. I missed the poison thread as I was ferrying from Cagliari to Palermo. Right now I'm waiting for a reasonable Sicilian dinner hour to approach. The restaurant owner told me 8:00pm at the earliest. I guess I should have tried my friend's tin of sardines at lunch. Well, maybe not.
My worst packing was one of my first trips to Europe. London in July of 1990. Summer right? I had a suitcase full of shorts, t-shirts and polos. On the 4th of July there was a driving rain and the temperature didn't break 45F. I froze my a** off. Had to buy a coat and slacks.
From that point on I learned to check weather reports.
