Good evening, Statia! My poison is Chardonnay.

I usually pack way too much, but I recall a time in high school when I went to Florida with my best friend and her family. It was December and all I could think about was getting a suntan. We froze! I took one sweater and a light jacket and wore that sweater a lot!

Such great stories, as always.

seetheworld, there is help. I travel very light now, but my first trip back to the US after living here for over a year....three large suitcases with every kind of clothing imaginable. Never wore even half of it. (Still smacking myself in the head over that one).

mms...that one is priceless.

Kal, I'm bowled over laughing about the "EFFIN vodka!" My DH would love that one.

GoTravel, I can relate with that 80's attire. Been there, done that, and still have some of it in my closet.

BTW - Happy Anniversary to Tiff...in case she checks in here. And, good news from CAPH today! Definitely a reason to have a poison.

I've been talking to my sister in the US in between typing this, so forgive me for missing postings in between.

No poison tonight since I drank all week! Yikes!

I've packed wrong a couple times. Once was when we went to Korea in November, no one told me it would be cold so I brought a lot of light clothes and only a light jacket. Luckily, I was still young so I could face the cold with a stiff upper lip.

Another was on my first trip to Portland. I remember it was June, for a convention for young advertising people. Many of my peers from around the country thought the same thing, that it would be warm! Man, we were cold. To top things off, for the fun run, my friend & I only had little shorts and bra tops like what we wear in Hawaii. By the time we were done our skin was red red red from all the whipping cold air.

Aloha Statia,

DH stole me away on the boat for a lovely sunset moonlight cruise on the lakes... bloody marys, miller lite chasers and snuggles... what more could a girl ask for? (cept a wt.sox win!)

OK, focus. wrong clothing... sorry... I'm too anal about things like this. the right clothing... I honestly cant think of a time where I had absolute wrong clothing. If anything... always have the RIGHT CLOTHING!! Whatever that means.

My packing disaster involved a wedding. It was in Estes Park, CO in the spring. I had come well prepared to go hiking that weekend, but in making sure I had remembered the stuff I would need to safely hike 10 miles at 8-10,000 feet of altitude, I forgot to pack an appropriate wrap to wear to the wedding, which was the entire reason for the trip. I ended up wearing a bright purple Gore-Tex jacket over a beautiful flowered silk dress. I was lucky I managed to remember to bring my shoes, otherwise I might have shown up to the wedding in my hiking boots.

Oh, and I forgot, my poison for the evening - Jamisons, neat please. It's been cold and raining in New York for over a week. I need a little anti-freeze in my system.

makai, I do agree...what more could a girl want! Lucky you! I'm left shorebound since my DH has already gone to bed with an early day ahead of him tomorrow.

bgans, your post reminded me of what we "left behind" on a trip once. Living in the islands my DH now only owns one pair of dress shoes. We were in my sister's wedding in the US and had so much shopping to bring home that we packed the formal clothing in a box and shipped it on the container bound for our island a couple months later, knowing there was no rush to get those items (shopping stuff came first, of course).

Never thought a thing about it until DH and I were getting dressed for a dressy governmental affair here that we HAD to attend. Being that we can not buy any shoes where we live, we were up quite a creek when realizing his dress shoes were somewhere enroute on a ship between the US and here and we had one hour before we had to be at our event.

You don't want to know how that one turned out.

My wife and I had a wonderful 1989 Chateauneuf-d-Pape ewith dinner tonight. Wow!!
Our biggest blunder was goint to NY a couple of years ago just after the holidays from here in Florida and taking winter clothing only to find out that the weather was unseasonably warm and not that much cooler than what we were used to during January in Florida. The locals were loving it and we were disappointed at not being able to experience the more typical winter weather.

bgans LOL,

Boy oh boy, do I understand where you're coming from re the rain but then again we reseeded last weekend and the grass is a-growin'

A glass of Burgundy for me tonight but I'd willing swap it for a glass of any type of Whisky!

When did I pack the wrong clothing? - 2 weekends ago we went to Montreal and packed for October in Canada! We didn't wear the sweaters I packed since the temps were in the 70's and even in the evenings it was too warm for jackets.

A memorable weekend where we ate every meal outside and did lots of people watching. We're looking forward to going back next spring.

My poision of choice tonight is a couple of light brews - wish I had a good Chardonnay at home!

A few years ago, we planned a trip to Madiera Beach, Fl at the end of July. No one takes long sleeves to Florida in July! Well, a hurricane came up into the gulf and gave us cool and rainey weather for 3 days! The upside was that we all got new sweatshirts!

Have a good evening!

Hello dear Statia, having some chardonnay while dinner finishes cooking, roastbeef and honey coated carrots. I was going to have roasted potatoes but my grandson is here for the weekend and he discovered a BIG shoe sale at Big 5 so we went shopping instead of roasting the potatoes. My kind of guy, "lets go shoe shopping"

My disaster with clothes was after I lost my husband. Friends invited me the following year to come and stay in the region of Veneto, Italy for 5 weeks. The weather was terribly warm there so I packed all hot weather clothes. Overnight the weather changed and there were horrible rainstorms, brillant electrical storms, and there I was with my summer hot weather clothes. Friends loaned me clothes of theirs to wear (sweaters, skirts, wool dresses and a coat). I did go out and buy some beautiful winter clothes while there but because of various scheduled plans that was about a week later. I felt like such a dork, LOL, but it was my friends in Italy that told me," only pack clothes for hot weather". I should have know better

Sharon, a GTG does need to be planned. As we keep saying. Let's work on that!! Happy weekend to all!

Statia and LoveItaly, great quesiton.

kureiff--ROFL!!!! Great answer!!

Like Statia, I am enjoying a Chilean wine, except mine is merlot.

Last January I went to Paris and I packed heavy winter clothes. That's the only trip I ever took where I got it right. For every other trip, I always seem to pack for the wrong season, so I end up buying stuff in order to be comfy and not look like such a fool.

The mis-packing that stands out first in my mind was when we went to Ireland. Although it was spring, I told DH to pack warm clothing and rain gear. I did the same. DH packed no shorts and I packed maybe one pair. I also bought 2 brand new travel umbrellas for the trip.

When we got to Ireland it was warm, sunny and beautiful. On the first day I thought we were so lucky to have this one day of sun. But then the next 10 days were sunny and quite warm. The Irish kept telling us how unusual this is, and we were lucky we were to see this kind of weather in Ireland. We never used the rain gear, and the new travel umbrellas were still in their packages when we came home.

The moral of this story: If you want warm, sunny weather, be sure to pack plenty of heavy clothes and rain gear.

Tonight is an Anne Amie Pinot Noir.

I am one of the overpackers , so I rarely have too much wrong clothing for any trip.
One year in London, in Nov! it was in the mid 70s all week and I had packed mostly sweaters and cold weather outfits.
I ended up wearing a Gap tee shirt for a couple of days til the weather broke and things were back to their chilly normal.
Moral of the story:
Pack a little bit of everything, then you will always have Something to Wear
