Electric Lemonade here. Lemonade with Ketel 1 Citroen with a dash of Amaretto to smooth things out (especially me!).

Wow! I don't have one favorite trip. Favorite snippets - the first 2 1/2 perfect days in Ireland, driving around "lost" in Provence, mule ride down into the Grand Canyon and mule deer licking the window of the hotel room that night and getting snowed in a Chataeu Lake Louise in May. That could be one favorite trip...if I was on Amazing Race warp speed.

The chauffer is done for the day, lol! I couldn't wait to come back here and read the stories

Beachbum--Yes! The kids and I took a taxi when we moved from Lisbon out to Cascais. The driver took us on the scenic route, along the river, when all of a sudden I spotted dh's sub. The kids and I were so excited we started yelling, lol! The driver understood English very well and so I was able to explain about the sub. Unfortunately tomorrow I will be in the "wrong" town, lol! Yes, the Beavs are doing great and I wish we had time to stop and cheer them on. Hmmm...maybe we will have to stop on our way home and at least bring home our favorite pizza from Woodstocks.

Statia and Iceeu2--Both of those stories are so touching!

Jocelyn--I agree about Moraine Lake...beautiful! We honeymooned in the area and then went back a few years ago. I could live there!

Seetheworld--We had our kids with us in Scotland too. It is so much fun to see how kids react to such interesting places.

I love reading everyones posts on this thread each week

Hate to have to say it again, but my poison is my usual Friday night cheap red wine. Perhaps savored a little more than usual because it was the last day of the school year for me!

At the risk of sounding extremely sappy, I have to say that all my trips have been special because they've all been family time: first with my parents and brothers, now with my kids.

When I was 20 or so, I transferred to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. I got thrown into contact with someone with whom I'd gone to grade school and high school who was the sister of a very close friend of my brothers' (two of them, they're twins) and was, herself, a good friend of a friend of mine. So, even though the two of us had never been particularly close, she had reason to know a lot about me. I'll never forget her telling me how much she'd envied me the trips I took with my family as I was growing up. She told me that it wasn't because of where we'd gone or what we'd seen. But because we were spending time together. Do you think that had an impact on my wanting to travel with my kids?! Or appreciating the fact that my parents had traveled with us!!

Good evening Statia and everyone. I am just having a boring chardonnay as too tired to go to the store.

My very favorite vacation would have to be the two months My DH and I spent in Italy with our daughter. A truly magical two months that I will never forget. To tired to go into details as had about 3 hours sleep last night and have not even eaten today due to helping family members leave unexpectably for Rome real early tomorrow morning.

But Statia, your thread brought back a flood of beautiful memories, thank you, I needed that.

Cin, cin.

Does it still count if it's Saturday morning?

I did enjoy an end-of-the-week martini (or 2...) last nite. And the all-time favorite trip pretty much has to be the spouse's and my first trip overseas in 1984, when we spent three weeks exploring the UK. It lived up to every bit of expectation I had and was truly magical.

Guess I'm not as worldly as some of you..I like my beer.(Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale) My most memorable trip has to be the cruise we went on in 2003. My favorite stop was the Cayman Islands..what a beautiful place!
My favorite vacation though, was last summer when my husband and I took our Harley and drove to Daytona Beach. We did so much exploring and found some really nice spots to wet our whistles at. I know it doesn't compare to all of yours, but I'm a simple girl with simple tastes.(But not a simple mind..lol)

It's Saturnday morning here on the "left Coast". My poison at this moment is the second cup of good strong black coffee.

My favorite trip is actually aspects of two separate trips: First I agree about Venice. I still can feel the delight when I emerged from the train station and there was Venice before me. My favorite day there was my birthday. It had just absolutely poured but the day had cleared. We took the vaporetto over to Burano and walked around. We settled into a great lunch of grilled shrimp at Da Romano having tried to get to the Gato Nero and been able to cross the water that was still accumulated in the streets from the earlier deluge. Afterwards we walked all around the streets. The houses are painted in bright colors and the shrines are beautiful. We took a late boat back to Venice and headed to the Danieli for a negroni at the bar that overlooks all of the canals. It was really a magical day.(Late Ocotber)

My other favorite day was spent in La Camrgue in the South of France. We motored down to Ste Maries de Mer and walked around the tiny town. The church and especially the crypt to Ste Sarah was rather surreal. We headed back up the road and settled into a 3 hour lunch at La Chassagnette. One eats what one is given there and what an experience. Trays of tapas from the organic garden in back, a steaming skillet of mussels and chorizo, grilled tuna, salad and more trays of desserts from the bounty of the land. From there we headed back to the parc and watched pink flamingoes in their natural habitat walk and squak. This was a day you think you dreamed. However, we have the pictures to prove it.

Thanks for these posts, Statia. I remember when you were planning your vow renewal in Venice. What a wonderful place to say "I certainly do".

mrsd2fan--I like a good beer too There are many beers that are better than some wines. Never compare your trips with others Staying true to what you like and enjoying your own life are all that matter.

I am definitely in need of a beer tonight. We stopped back in Corvallis after the meet today and brought home our favorite pizza. I was really wanting a beer while we were waiting, but I had to drive home. Wonder if I left any drool on the table? lol!

Just found out I can rest easy with that beer. Got word that DH and his friends made it to the summit ok, and they are on their way back down the mountain and only have a little ways to go still. I am always on edge a bit until I hear.

Last night's poison was $2 martinis at Chai's Island bistro (every Friday from 5-8!).

Gosh, it's hard to choose any one trip as my favorite....I guess it will always be my next one! But one of my faves was the solo trip to Prague, Munich, Paris, and Frankfurt. I went there to run the Prague marathon. I met so many nice people on that trip, including the famous Elvira and elberko from this board.

mms, what a relief, right? Really, I think the trip your husband & friends made is so cool--glad they made it to the summit--would love to hear more! Sorry to read about your Dad but those stairs at the ET!...they reminded me of the back side of a food grater, if that makes sense...they were challenging in their own right!

dcespedes--We took the elevator at the ET, so I had no idea how rough those stairs are! Probably a good thing for us! DH does both rock and mountain climbing, but prefers the mountain climbing. This climb was up at Mt. Baker, in northern WA. His biggest summit to date though has been Mt. Rainier. He just called again and wanted to drive home tonight, but I said no way. I knew he needed sleep. They started climbing at 2:30am, and so he has been awake for far too long to try to drive home. My best friend has his car keys just to be safe I love to hike and scramble, but I leave the technical climbing to him.

indytraveler-
I would love to help polish off that last bit of Michelob out of the keg. For some reason I like beer a whole lot better out of a tap than in a bottle!
My first choice is wine, but I just opened a can of Mich ulta. Hmmm.

I enjoyed a pitcher of hard sweet Cider sitting in the seaport of Bairritz! I also like the city of Cognac- one could get high on the smell of the town! Pure Cognac! I really only like to drink it with a fruit juice though! Oh, the memories!

My poison is English Breakfast tea and I am very much enjoying it after too much Chardonay last night.

Favorite trip...That would probably be our trip back East (we live in So Cal) for a family reunion. My uncle in CT pushed it and it finally happened.

So, we got our FF miles and flew a red eye to CT(kids were 12 and 7) drove to Vermont and DH flyfished and was in heaven. We drove through New Hampshire making stops along the way. I had heavily researched trip on the Yankee magazine site. Stopped to visit with friends in Maine. Stuffed ourselves on Lobster. Went through Salem and last night we stayed near Concord, Mass., and one of my favorite areas, Walden Pond.

Then, went down to the reunion site, a tiny coastal community on the Sound near Lyme, CT. Met up with my TX family and cousins from CT. We all shared cottages. Did the big reunion picnic with about 100 of us.

Then spent the rest of the week eating lobster and tubing in my cousin's speed boat or reading books on the shore. It was the best. We all enjoyed going back to our roots. My kids say it was their favorite. My DH wants to go back, as long as we don't have MIL in our cottage hogging our one bathroom!

Thanks for asking.
