gyppielou, you can have Kal as your poison tonight...well, my DH isn't home tonight so can I have him as mine, too? Just kidding, of course.

However, no pizza before bedtime girl, you hear?

You guys are sooo funny. I wanted to just read and not post because how could I be as funny as that line about an animal dying in your mouth. That is not only funny it is way too weird to discuss.

I went today to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure -- they're running a two parks for one price deal for Floridians. I was amazed at how many people from all over the world were there braving the heat -- and I mean it was HOT -- crowding into that park. Lordy. Hot, hot, sweaty bodies.

I'm taking a dip in my pool for my poison. Looking forward to freshening my bod -- I think an animal died inside it today. A very big bad animal that doesn't like sweating with the tourists at Univ. Studios.

Statia, how great to have the little Statia visit. My nephew is visiting my son for a week. It's so great to have him here.

OK. I might sneak a vodka tonic poolside.

Kal, did I go to college with you? There was a fraternity at my school that made a sport out of swallowing live goldfish.

No poison tonight. We're packing up for our trip to Denver tomorrow. We're visiting family, but hoping to go into the mountains for a day or two.

My last trip was to Paris, with just my DH. Here's my trip report:

I am so sure that if I ever posted a photo of me and a Segway, it would show a Segway leaning on a tree and a crumpled body under it

You look so cute Joc!

LOL, Scarlett. I did have a woman from our group slam into me at full speed! I, the rammee, somehow managed to stay afloat, but the rammer and her Segway became very well acquainted with the sidewalk. I was just proud that I didn't have any accidents...then there's my DH, who was spinning around in circles yelling "weeeeeee..."

FInished off a Castle Rock pinot.

Last trip was to NYC - mother/daughter trip with my 15 year old. We had fun. Loved the Lion King. Ate at a wonderful restaurant, shopped till we couldn't walk any more. One week before that, H and I went to Monterey and Sonoma. Stayed in the most fabulous cabin on the Russian River. Can't wait to go back.

Scarlett, here in Austin, we have a "First Thursday" as well, on South Congress ave, also referred to as "SoCo". Sounds just like the First Thrs. in Portland.

Love you guys and especially your Friday "Poison" thread Statia. And your descriptions of your activities are priceless.

I too am drinking a boring Chardonnay, as I now have to start saving for a trip to Italy also. I sure hope the Italians appreciate how we try to add to their economy, LOL.

My last trip was to Atlanta and Charleston thanks to OWJ and is was fantastic. A great week in April and one I will always remember.

Haven't even been to SF for over two months. Not the summer I had planned but there are always future trips so not a problem.

Happy weekend everyone, enjoy yourselves whereever you are.

Hi All. Lots of laughs tonight, eh?!?

Enjoyed a very nice Chardonnay with dinner tonight! It was make fun of mom tonight at dinner -- I just love when the sons share family secrets with the girlfriend. Must be that damn full moon syndrome, lol

Anyway, the last trip was our camping trip to Beaver Pond. What an experience, LOL! It felt like h*ll on earth -- not the camping experience itself, but the "woods crazies" that were out in full force. No one told me that there would be people making lots of noise at 3 a.m. and again at 6 a.m. It was far from any peaceful and serene image that we had in our minds. I still haven't recovered -- I'll get to a trip report one of these days

GoT, I'm sure your butt is not that big! I always find summertime makes me eat more but your metabolism should be running on overtime. Don't carb load, tho unless you are doing a big run.

Scarlett, I know you used to spend time in St. Martin awhile back, and you'd be amazed at the changes these days (some for the better, some for the worse). You'll just have to come down to "Villa Statia" one day and spend a few days over there, as well. Only problem is that it will now be an awfully long way from Portland.

Austin, you sure have had a couple of great trips lately. A romantic trip and a girls trip. You go, girl!

LoveItaly, yes we have to keep that Italian economy thriving so we can continue going back, huh?

LoveItaly, my dear friends daughter just got married and her and the couple are now honeymooning in Italy. Not a typical honeymoon destination for a young couple, IMO. They are going to Venice, the Amalfi Coast, Rome, Florence, and one other place that I cannot recall at the moment. My father was born and raised as a young boy in Italy. I hope to one day visit what sounds to be a beautiful country

Statia -- it sounds like you had a lovely time with you DH and your DSD. I have never been to "the islands", but they sure do sound pristine and pleasant!

Hi seetheworld, do you know where your father was born and raised in Italy? That is interesting. Also, did I understand you correctly, is your friend going with the honeymoon couple to Italy???

Statia, both of us, along with a lot of other Fodorites really need to keep drinking run of the mill wine for the next months so that we can all go back to Italy. Their economy is in a bit of a shambles you know. It is the least that we can do, LOL. Cin,Cin!

In the spirit of all this Italy talk I opted for Prosecco as my poison tonight. Yummy with Thai food & dreams of future vacations...

LOL, oh my friend would have loved that, but no that was an editing mistake on my part! The couple went by themselves

My father is from Southern Italy -- near the heel of the boot. I think the town begins with an "F" but I am ashamed to admit I don't know the name. I will find out this weekend. My father's father worked on a vineyard, and unfortunately one day, he was struck and killed by a truck, leaving my grandmother to raise all 14 children. Reading what I just wrote absolutely floors me! It is my dream to visit my father's country one day in the future.

Hi Trish, Prosecco!! It is one of my favorite wines and is from the region of Veneto and is especially known for being from Congeliano where I always go. A "hot day" wine to be savored for sure. Enjoy!

Seetheworld, Oh I am so glad the honeymoon couple did not have mother along with them on their honeymoon! I didn't question it as we had a family member that went on their honeymoon to Hawaii for two weeks and they had his mother with them for one week and his grandmother with them for the second week. The rest of the family just "shook their heads" LOL.

Perhaps your father was from Francavilla or the smaller town of Fragaonao. Both are on the boot of Italy. Inland, sort of east of Taranto. I hope that you can obtain the information.

Stories such as yours always amazes me. Can you imagine raising 14 children in a poor section of Italy all by yourself? Well anywhere actually. It always makes me cringe when I think about what I complain about at times. The women of Italy are very strong but it is to bad that there is not more information passed down to their children etc. so that future generations will be aware of what their life was like. But I believe pride and also the fact that they did "what they had to do" without giving it any importance as they never thought there was any choice has meant that so many precious stories have not been passed on to the younger generations. I too hope that you can go to your father's motherland. I am sure that you would enjoy every moment. Best wishes to you.

Kal, what kind of animal was it? haha
