The search engine is insane.

try this Jan 6th, 2003 01:15 PM

1) search engine doesn't seem to work on same day's posts, only back posts.
2) gets very confused wihen you search with a phrase or whole string of words. Use ans old computer searcher's trick--use just one word, preferable the most unique word in th epost you can think of (e.g. name of specific hotel rather than "hotel", or something you remember or need specific info on, e.g. "museums" rather than "NYC")

Works for me more often than not
The search engine on this thing is useless. Pretty annoying actually.

Faina Jan 6th, 2003 03:25 PM

Confused, use 1 or 2 words only for your search.

I even tried once to do a search on my name to see when was 1st time I posted - and I got it!
I've noticed the search engine doesn't work on posts that were a day or two ago either. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, and I agree that it's a pretty much a useless feature since it's so undependable.

confused -

What was the exact text and under what did you post it? Did you try one unique word? Did you try under "general interest".

Mary Jan 7th, 2003 06:12 AM

I don't know about Confused, but I've tried it all. It just doesn't work (much of the time).

Search Jan 7th, 2003 06:44 AM

What is even more annoying are the people who always say -"Do a search and you'll find plenty of information on that topic." Sure - if you want two year old information. The search doesn't bring up the recent, up to date information.
