What's up w/ airfare to Vegas?

Anyone know why RT air prices to Vegas went up by almost $150 (at least from KC)? We were checking out flights late last week and on Sunday they'd shot up by nearly $150! I checked several carriers and it seems they are all offering approx the same rates (hmmmm). For what it's worth, we're looking to go mid-summer

I'm sure there is more than one reason, but my best guess is that the price of crude oil is a big factor. The high price of crude has driven up the price of jet fuel, hence the airlines must pass that cost on to us. Many posters have noticed that airfares to just about everywhere are a lot higher this year. But keep watching, you never know when a sale will pop up.

You should try again tonight and tomorrow morning. It's possible that there will be a sale but I don't think the fares are going to get lower. Your days may be selling out due to a convention or something. Try other dates, if you are flexible.

For example, suppose you want to go for the weekend of July 22-23.
Saturday - Monday the fare is $165 all in.
Thursday - Monday it's $175.
Friday - Monday and it is $185.
Friday - Sunday it's $288

Which must mean that Sunday, July 23, is a popular day for leaving Las Vegas (or the airlines expect it will be?).

A week later, July 28-30, Fri-Sun you can fly for $195.

I'm looking for Detroit to Vegas in August. The fare I found was $374!!! I hope it goes down. :(

We found that here in BOS the prices for Phoenix shot way up as soon as America West merged w/US Air. I don't know if AWA was the airline you were using for LV and maybe that same price increase happened on the KC-Vegas route?? I have not checked the Vegas prices lately from BOS, but I will now.

Well, fuel prices have something to do with it, but 'Vegas is a super-popular destination and people will pay to go there - airlines know that too so they do not have to offer real bargain rates.

Southwest is still offering nonstop flights between KC & Vegas for $158.60 including all fees and taxes.

Opps - I missed the mid-summer part.

That far out, the airfares may change many times. A $150 change from one day to the next is not at all unusual.
