What other FLA destination would complement trip to Sanibel?

We would like to spend 8-14 days in Florida, encompassing March 1st. If we spent half that time at Sanibel/Captiva (want to go back again), what area would you recommend for the remainder? We have been to the Keys,Miami,Orlando,Tampa - looking for new places to "explore". We will have a rental car - have heard of Seaside,Cedar Key, but don't know where/much about them. Also, would panhandle area fit into this scenario? Looking forward to your suggestions.

Consider Siesta Keys. It may still be cooler up around the panhandle. Only drawback. Other than that, perhaps Naples. Not far from Sanibel.

Bike Week in Daytona first full week of march is a must see!

How about crossing over and heading northward along the ocean, up to the Sebastian Inlet area? The ocean is beautiful there, you can stay in a mom&pop type hotel in Melbourne area, or a nicer place in Vero Beach area. Would be a nice contrast to the calm Gulf. A visit to Cape Canaveral to see the space shuttle launch site is really something to see, and you can try driving on the beach in Daytona, a must-see as John said. Although I don't know if I'd do it during bike week!

You are going to be doing a lot of driving! In any case, St. Augistine, Daytona area with a trip to Kennedy Space Center. If you have done that try Ft. Lauderdale area.
