what island and where to stay?

The last time I was in HI (Mauii and Oahu)was in 1987 for my engagement.
We are interested in going but we now have 3 kids (ages 1, 11 and 13 yrs old). Which Island would you suggest? I SCUBA and we do LOVE the beach but we need somewhere that is good for our baby, too.
Also, where would you suggest staying? We are very open to suggestions and really have no clue as to where to start.
What are the best times to go visit HI?
Thanks in advance for your ideas :)

We like Oahu best because there you can do nothing (like sit on the beach) or lots of different things, as you choose. You could go snokerling in beautiful Hanauma Bay, visit the Polynesian Cultural Center, shop at the huge Ala Moana center, see out-of-the-way waterfalls...much variety. There are also any number of kid-friendly coffee shops for meals.

Forgot to mention the zoo, the aquarium, and Marineland, along with Pearl Harbor.

Having been to five of the islands, here's a vote for Maui where there are many things to see and do. The Hyatt and Westin in Kaanapali and the Grand Wailea and Faimont Kea Lani in Wailea offer wonderful grounds and pools for families. If you would rather go the condo route for more room and perhaps less cost, I don't have much experience... The Kaanapali
Alii looks very nice but it's not inexpensive!

My vote for Maui. Enough things to do, but not the crowds of Oahu. We found very reasonable condo rentals in the Kihei area which is very centrally located. Try to get one with putting greens and shuffle board--kids will love it and then all you have to do is take them to the beach. Great beaches in the Wailea area and spend a day at Black Rock at Kanapali shop at Lahaina on the way back to Kihei.
