What is your favorite vacation spot?

I wanted to get everyones favorite spot and why.
I love Bermuda and Grand Cayman. Its close enough to me that I can enjoy a short flight and still have beautiful beaches, wonderful people, lots of activities, and great sightseeing!
What do you think my friends?

abram Feb 14th, 2006 07:23 PM

Almost any ski resort in the western US or Canada.

luv2fly Feb 14th, 2006 07:31 PM

Great Barrier Reef.

I know it's a long flight from NYC, but worth every minute once you arrive.

Second favorite: Bangkok

utahtea Feb 14th, 2006 08:50 PM

Hummm.....let me think :? I live in California yet my sign on name has Utah in it! So even if you had to guess, you would be safe to say UTAH! is my favorite vacation place. I love the desert, the red rock canyons with their beautiful tapistry walls, buttes, mesas, petroglyphs and the 5 national parks. Utah is close enough that we can make it in a days drive.

Still looking for my favorite vacation spot!!! I have to say that I plan to have a life-long search!! (If I am lucky, I will never truly find it...)

amwosu Feb 15th, 2006 06:12 AM

Aspen Colorado is the favorite destination for my whole family. Skiing is great (runs and lifts never crowded, and wide runs at Snowmass), service industry on the mountain and in town is great, locals are genuinely nice, restaurant options in all price ranges are plentiful, great art, fur, and jewelry stores to see items not exactly available in my hometown, and people watching at Christmas time rocks.

tcreath Feb 15th, 2006 08:02 AM

Rome, definitely. I just love the city. The history, the culture, the people, the food, the atmosphere, sitting in piazzas drinking coffee or wine.... I could go on and on. I am getting ready to make my third trip there in less than two years, as I have become quite addicted.

In the US I would have to say anywhere in Colorado because I love hiking and the scenery is amazing.

Hawaii! DH and I went on our honeymoon 2 summers ago, we went back last summer, and are returning again this summer :) We have other trips to new places scheduled in between, but we are addicted to Hawaii! The food, the beaches, the snorkeling, the people, we love it all!

beach_dweller Feb 15th, 2006 08:10 AM

So far,

it's Ireland. Beautiful, old, relatively unspoiled, gentle, great beaches (seriously), fresh Guinness--need I say more?

SAnParis Feb 15th, 2006 08:39 AM

Um, Paris & just about any beach although I am partial to Holden Beach, NC, Amelia Island, FL. & Rincon, PR. If the criteria is times visited, it would go like this 1) Holden Beach (50-60X), 2) New Orleans (15X), 3) Amelia Island (10X) & 4) Key West & Germany (5-6X) .

sschaub Feb 16th, 2006 09:22 PM

My favorite spot is Costa Rica. Been there twice now and loved it. Ocean is great, weather is great, rainforest, volcano, scuba diving,sailing--they have it all. What an experience--Check it out
Good Luck

Hi,
I have to agree with you dgib...
I haven't been to Bermuda in over 20 years..but it was like a paradise back then...one of my favorite places!
I was wondering if it has changed much
over the years?
Thanks,
Auty1

Statia Feb 17th, 2006 06:31 AM

I don't have a favorite yet because I still have too many places to see. Out of those I've been to, however, I would have to choose Venice, Italy. It is just so unique, magical and relaxing.

wagonwheel2 Feb 17th, 2006 06:34 AM

Cavendish Beach, Prince Edward Island Canada. Red cliffs overlooking huge red sand beach.
Yearly visit to beautiful cottage that has view of ocean, large open fields for son and doggie to romp, and lobster suppers to die for.
Pure relaxation.

Samsaf Feb 17th, 2006 07:00 AM

I love lots of places around the world, but so far -- Hawaii (all the islands). There's just something about the atmosphere, the scenery, the scent in the air -- we're going back in July!

BayouGal Feb 17th, 2006 07:08 AM

And all this time I thought you were from Utah, Utahtea . . . you just never know, huh?! :) Now, what's the "tea" stand for? ;;)

Favorite vacation locale: Wow, I'm more like girlonthego, and hope I can continue to travel the world, and especially this country, many more years in search of it! :))

cgrk Feb 17th, 2006 07:25 AM

Agree with Utahtea. Been many places but Utah is magical. I like going many miles without seeing a billboard and being able to view scenery that has been virtually unchanged for hundreds of years. You can travel all around or stay in one place for a week and still not explore all the trails.

Little_Man Feb 17th, 2006 08:50 AM

I fell in love with Mexcio a few years ago. Cancun & the Riviera Maya are tops for me, but Puerto Vallarta's great, too.

GoTravel Feb 17th, 2006 09:21 AM

My favorite vacation spot is the one where I can relax with Mr.GoTravel!

One of my all time favorite vacations was a unscheduled open ended drive from South Beach to Jacksonville via A1A. We took our time (a little over 2 weeks) and just stopped and hung out where we wanted to.

We packed the cooler and the beach chairs in back of the expedition and just stopped whenever we felt like stopping and spent as much time as we wanted to doing whatever.

I'd give anything to do it all over again. Just me and him.:)

Little_Man Feb 17th, 2006 09:51 AM

aww, that's so sweet, gotravel! I feel the same way about Mr. Frankie!

jennymary Feb 17th, 2006 11:14 AM

The Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur is definitely my favorite. Others that came close-- renting a villa in Tuscany and staying at Cap Juluca in Anguilla. Overall though, The Post Ranch was perfection for me.

JJ5 Feb 17th, 2006 11:22 AM

My favorite vacation spot is on my lake in Michigan. Everytime I return and in every season I feel like I'm home. And since I bought it, I am.

Too many others through out the world for me to have a true favorite while traveling. I love drives like Go Travel's, exactly.

vegasnative Feb 17th, 2006 01:53 PM

wagonwheel, that sounds beautiful. I am going to have to look into that, sounds like an ideal place for me and my family to visit one day. Hmm....

I haven't been many places outside of the U.S. but I have been to Scotland and just loved it. The countryside is like no other! I love London also. Stateside my favorite vacation spot would be San Diego with the Florida panhandle (Ft. Walton beach area) a very close second.

SusanEva Feb 18th, 2006 11:17 AM

The North Carolina beaches and southern shore of Lake Superior.

Bikom Feb 18th, 2006 12:28 PM

Hawaii gets my vote. It truly is Paradise for me. Whether its the ocean or a nice pool, being in the water heals me. I'm always happy and relaxed in Hawaii. I love the people, the food, the scenery. (Everything but the prices!) Maui is my favorite, but the Big Island is growing on me. Wish I could spend lots more time there.

Nice thread, dgib, love reading everyone's choices.

artlover Feb 18th, 2006 12:33 PM

Spain, Italy, and France...not necessarily in that order.

artlover Feb 18th, 2006 12:35 PM

Oh, I forgot to say why, but I assume my name gives it away...

Heavens Feb 18th, 2006 01:05 PM

I agree with Girlonthego, still looking. I love so many places can't even list them all here. Pretty much wherever we are headed for a few days off, that is my favorite spot. Just love to go and "be" on vacation...

Dodos_World Feb 19th, 2006 07:27 AM

Edinburgh Scotland is the most beautiful City with the most to do, if you can plan your holidays around their festival schedule; for the complete other end of the vacation spectrum I really do like Orlando.

PaulRabe Feb 19th, 2006 10:21 AM

City I could never get tired of visiting (and I've been there eight times):
New York

City I most enjoyed visiting, even though it was only once:
Paris
(If you want to say I also will never get tired of visiting Paris, fine. But *I* don't know that)

Most beautiful natural wonder:
Tie between Grand Canyon and Yosemite

Best overall outdoor experience:
Alaska

Most romantic spot:
Hawaii

beach_dweller Feb 20th, 2006 12:33 PM

Dodos_World,

I have to agree if you're talking one city, Edinburgh is the most magical one I've been to so far (although I have to say I haven't been to that many top contenders outside the U.S., e.g., Venice).
