What is your favorite trail?
What is your favorite trail, short or long, anywhere in the United States?
|
I love the Tahoe Rim trail at Lake Tahoe.
|
Iceberg Trail in Glacier National Park.
In Canada it has to be the Lake MacDonald Trail in Lake O'Hara, BC |
Cedar Falls - Hocking Hills, Ohio
|
Franconia Ridge Trail in the White Mtns. But then, I haven't done any real hiking out west.
|
The Bond Cliff Trail in the White Mtns of NH is fantastic but must agree with msackton in that the Franconia Ridge Trail is also great.
mm |
Owl's Head near Lake Placid. A very short trail with incredible views.
|
I live in Oregon and I have a lot of favorite trails - but maybe the Most favorite is Iron Mountain/Cone Peak-
over 300 varieties of wild flowers grow there - the meadows are like Monets paintings with beautiful colors all blended together. When you reach the top of Iron Mountain there is a look out center with views of snowcapped mountains. Was just there a couple of weeks ago and the flowers were spectacular. |
Horseshoe Basin in the Pasayten Wilderness in the North Cascades of Washington State.
|
Delicate Arch trail in Arches National Park, Riverside Walk in Zion National Park, Vernal Falls trail in Yosemite National Park, Old Faithful Geyser area in Yellowstone National Park.
Utahtea |
Virgin Narrows in Zion, Angel's Landing in Zion, Queen's Garden in Bryce, Delicate Arch in Arches, Landscape in Arches, Devil's Garden in Arches, Bright Angel in Grand Canyon, Havasupi Trail to Supai in Grand Canyon, Norris Basin at Yellowstone.
|
Good Opinions- I am going to Bryce, Zion, and Grand Canyon this year. My personal favorite trail is the Cascade Canyon Trail in the Tetons.
|
Panorama Trail in Yosemite.
-Bill |
Our favorite all time trail is the Nu'alolo/Cliffs/Awa'awapuhi Loop Trail on Kauai, especially the view from Lolo Vista--down into the Nu'alolo Valley and out across the NaPali coast---one of our most spectacular days.
Then there's the Canadian Rockies---hard to just pick one trail there--wonderful day hiking. |
Anybody have a favorite hike in the Eastern United States like the Appalachian Region?
Thanks- |
confluence trail in canyonlands, wilcox pass off icefields parkway (either banff or jasper), iceberg lake - glacier, cascade pass - north cascades, narrows - zion,
|
in response to the east, franconia ridge in new hampshire, various parts of the appalachian trail- charlies bald in smokies, watergap in nj, shennandoah.
|
Where is the Lake McDonald trail in Yoho?
I know Oesa, Opabin, McArthur, Linda Lakes, Schaeffer Lake, and O'Hara itself, but were is Lake McDonald? Does the trail originate near the Lodge or La Relais or the campground? |
The Narrows, Zion NP
Avalanche Lake, Glacier NP Trail to Supai and Havasu Falls, Grand Canyon Eagle Creek Trail, Columbia River Gorge, Oregon Trail from Glacier Point in Yosemite down to the Valley floor passing Nevada and Vernal Falls (forget the name) |
karens, you mean the Panorama Trail (in Yosemite).
My favorite is the James Irvine Trail in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Four miles through the redwoods to Fern Canyon and the ocean, with elk. In the east, it's the Glens loop at Ricketts Glen State Park, Pennsylvania. |
Does anybody have a favorite trail in the Midwest? I have always wondered what the Midwest is like. It is the only part of the country I have not been to.
|
On the right-hand side of the country, I love Old Rag near Luray, VA.
Unfortunately, lots of others love it too so unless you love crowds, go early and shoot for mid-week. |
Since I live so close to it (on weekends) and love to hike, it would have to be parts of the AT in western NC. What makes it so nice is the absolute solitude you can experience a lot of times. Your mind wanders and to be so far away from the concrete jungle I have to see during the week is nirvana. In awe of the land as it has been for hundreds of years is complete therapy for me.
|
Smokeyboy, I have to add that AT trail to Roan Mountain in late June with blooming rhododendrons and flame azaleas is incredible but very crowded on weekends
|
I want to add to my list the Grinnell Glacier Trail in Glacier NP. We were there are few weeks ago - it was a great hike.
|
I try and pick the out of way parts of the trail, the popular ones and ones that have easy access can get crowded with day hikers. I just hiked to the top of Albert Mtn from a dirt road you travel on for 11 miles. From there to Standing Indian. The feel from atop the fire tower at Albert Mtn. in complete solitude was incredible.
|
Btw earlxx, you ready to go hiking?
|
Thanks, sequoia370, for mentioning the James Irvine Trail in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park.
I didn't remember the name of it but I have never forgotten hiking it with my parents and brothers and sisters more than 30 years ago. It left a lasting impression on me. We have lots of pictures in our album of Fern Canyon and the log-strewn Gold Bluff Beach. It gets my best trail vote. |
That'd be the one that leads home! :))
Belle. |
Favorites are the Presidential Range traverse in the White Mtns of NH from Gorham to Crawford Notch. It can be very crowded at times.
Less crowded, and equally satisfying is Mt Katahdin up through Chimney Pond, the Cathedral trail to the summit, and then returning via the fantastic Knife Edge trail and the Helon Taylor to Roaring Brook. Kevin |
Any of the trails in Point Lobos - just gorgeous. Tower Arch trail at Arches. Peek-A-Boo loop at Bryce. After our upcoming trip to Chaco Canyon, I'm sure a few of those trails will be on this list!
|
There are so many in Montana but one of my favorites is the trail from E. Rosebud to Cooke City. On the 33 mile trail there are many places you can camp, fish and turn around if you have time constraints.
|
1 Highline trail in GNP.
2 Iceberg Lake trail in GNP 3 Avalanche Lake trail in GNP Can you tell I live next to GNP? |
I am reluctant to reveal the name of my favorite eastern hiking trail on this forum but I will give some good clues-
This trail was to be a reroute of the AT before Congress protected the the entire trail. It is named after an indian tribe native to the area It is the trail with nobody on it despite being close to large cities this trail was renamed in the late ninties -original name mentions the "color" of a certain eastern range mountain I have recently hiking solo on this trail for a week and aside from road crossings and towns have seen not a soul not my favorite trail but quite nice and a great option to the crowded AT easy to find with my clues and too nice to tell anyone not willing to look |
