What is there to see really in Atlantic City
We are driving from NYC to Washington via Philadelphia, and will be going through Atlantic City. It will pretty much be where we spend the evening before heading to Philadelphia for the afternoon the next day. Is it worth an extended stop? We probably won't arrive there until after 9pm and I was thinking breakfast and a walk for a few hours the next morning before heading to Philadelphia. Neither of us like casinos, so that is out. Thank you, Lissa

You don't drive through Atlantic City on the way to Philly from NYC. Since you don't like casinos, its probably not worth the time to drive over to it from the NJ Turnpike.

Ick...don't even bother

Have you had a look at a map? Atlantic City is out of the way to get from NYC to Phil. Phil. can be driven in ~ 2hrs. if you pick the right time of day. If your thought is to see some beach, there are much prettier beach towns in NJ to stop like Spring Lake, NJ. It's a charming town with Victorian architecture and a nice boardwalk. If you just want a stop between NYC and Phil. that's not out of the way, Princeton, NJ, is a beautiful town.

Based on info from her other threads Lissa2905 is interested in a side trip to the Jersey Shore on her way from NYC to DC via PHL, not just a bee-line along the NJ Turnpike. They have time for a sightseeing trip and want to visit the shore.
For a stop at undeveloped NJ shore she's been directed to Island Beach State Park. If she's already at the shore then the only real route to PHL is down to AC then over to PHL - hence her question about stopping in AC. |
If you are not interested in gambling, don't stop in AC. As suggested above, Spring Lake is a lovely town:
http://www.springlake.org/ If you are doing this during the summer season, you could visit Pt. Pleasant Beach in the evening. This would be a "typical Jersey Shore" experience. Walk the boards, eat Boardwalk Food, and play the games of chance...then go back to Spring Lake and spend the night at the Hewitt Wellington. |
Thank you J62 yes, that is what we were thinking of, but as it seems that for non gamblers it might be a bit dissapointing we don't think we'll bother. We are spending 4-5 days on the coast north of NYC. We can go to the Jersey Shore on our next trip :)
