What is the one song...

What is the one song you must listen to when on vacation?

You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon

We don't have time for favorite songs on vacation. We are busy being on vacation.

Depends on where we are going, but Buffett & Harry Chapin get a lot of play time on the way to the Beach.

Does anyone know when the Electric Slide and the Macarina will permenantly die and go away?

Road trips: We like a variety of music.

Nothing like hearing "Sitting on the Dock of a Bay" while on a beach vacation!

A little Carlos Santana for south of the border trips!

And of course, in the caribbean, something sounding tropical(steel drum band) while sipping a frozen something or other.

When we go to Hawaii, I guess I am looking forward to hearing hawaiian music!

Riding with the King - Eric Clapton and BB King - bringing it to upcoming Seychelles catamaran trip/Tanzanian safari.

Best listened to while sipping a coctail.

Callaloo Feb 2nd, 2006 06:18 AM

"Lovely Cruise" by Jimmy Buffett.

Since many of my vacations are sailing trips, it's a song I like to play as we are returning to the dock after our "cruise."

Passe em Casa by Tribalistas. Really, the whole Tribalistas album. Heard them first on honeymoon in Italy, and it is now my favorite travel cd of all time. Of course, I can't understand a single word since it's all sung in Portugese, but that's part of the charm. :)

Callaloo, that's funny - we play our tune when leaving the dock. Are we perhaps, creatures of habit :D

Rocky Mountain High and Sunshine on my Shoulders, by John Denver.

When you go on road trips, you have plenty of time to listen to music!

Utahtea...and over a dozen John Denver CD's!

Even with XM radio, I still have to have The Allman Brothers "A Decade of Hits 1969-1979" in the car. Great road songs and "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" was the inspiration for my screen name.

A fave vacation song is the live version of "24 Hours at a Time" by the Marshall Tucker Band (from the 1974 album "Where We All Belong"). Cruise control is required because it's too easy to bury the needle with this song.

Agree on the John Denver idea. Vacation is the only time I listen to him.

J_Correa Feb 2nd, 2006 07:38 AM

We listen to a lot of Carlos (Santana) and Bob (Marley) on our car trips.

As we approach the beach I always get out my Jimmy Buffett.

As a kid I can remember driving through West Virginia and singing "Take Me Home Country Road" by John Denver. We'd all sing at the top of our lungs and had so much fun!

MerryTravel Feb 2nd, 2006 07:43 AM

"Holiday" by Weezer.

Worktowander Feb 2nd, 2006 08:58 AM

A little Elton John for the plane ride.

For packing, nothing tops Steppenwolf.

"Get your motor runnin'..."

If I Were a Carpenter by Johnny Cash. With five kids and a wife, my three weeks vacation are a respite from achaotic world. I also listen to Jimmy Buffet and the Mamas and Papas when on vacation.

aliska Feb 2nd, 2006 11:09 AM

We always have that old Kenny Rogers' song You Picked a Fine Time to Leave Me, Lucille. The kids substitute Loose Wheel for Lucille because we lost a tire one time while playing this song. From when the kids were very little, we cannot get on an airplane without singing "Up We Go Into the Wild Blue Yonder". Nearby passengers used to smile when the girls were 2 & 5, now they're 15 & 18, we get the weirdo looks.

utahtea Feb 2nd, 2006 11:43 AM

When we traveled three weeks in Alaska, I listened to every John Denver song I had on CD and tape. He has 3 songs just about Alaska and so many more than apply to scenic wonderlands.
