What is the distance between Albuquerque and Canyon de Chelly?
Thanks

About 245 miles to Chinle, which is where the entrance to the Canyon is. 3.5-4 hours drive time.

I came up with 230 miles and approx. time of about 4 hours.
Take I-40 to Gallup and then take Hwy 666 north to Hwy 264 past Window Rock, AZ and then Hwy 191 up to Chinle. Utahtea |
I agree with above desciptions, but for the time needed, it depends on where you stop...Between Albuquerque and Canyon de Chelley, there is Window Rock,
with a museum(not so bad), a zoo(was good last time we were there...) and the offices of the navajo nation with the hole in the rock which gives the name to the city...(Window Rock is the capital of the navajo nation...the restaurant at navajo nation inn is good, not for the meals-which is commun but for the atmosphere with the locals and the navajo representatives who often eat here... At Ganado, there is Hubbel trading post, expensive if you want to buy navajo tapis, but to see for the atmosphere of this well preserving trading post. So 2 hours(+/- 30 mn) in Window rock and 1 hour in Hubbel==>if you quite early in the morning Albuquerque you'll arrive in Chelley in the middle of the afternoon : you can check a tour for the day after(4wheel or hiking ), try to have the night hike if it exists always and make the south rim at sunset...A great day before exploring the canyon by the bottom which is terrific Erik. |
We left early (7-8 am) from ABQ, traveled the interstate and the "road less-traveled" (and got lost once), had lunch at Canyon de Chelly and arrived at Gouldings in Monument Valley before dinner. Hope that gives you a idea of the time.
