What is the best time of year to go to Providence?

Hi, I was wondering what would be the best time of year to visit Providence, RI? I was thinking of visiting over July 4th? How will the weather be and is there lots to see and do? Please advise.

Anytime in the summer is a good time to visit Providence. It's hard to say what the weather will be like, but most likely sunny & in the 80s. Providence has been an up & coming city the past couple of years since the upscale Providence Place Mall was built. There are quite a few good restaurants in the downtown area, many with outdoor seating. As for a lot to see & do, you may want to take some day trips to places such as Newport RI or maybe even Boston MA which is about an hour by car.

Try to go when a "waterfire" is planned. There are probably abuout a dozen or so a year. The canal that goes thru the town is set up with bonfires all along it and lit some evenings.
There is music etc.

Here's a link to the schedule

http://www.waterfire.com/schedule/index.html

It's a great little city.
