What is the best car for traveling?

Dodge conversion van - you have lots of comfort as you're making a long road trip. Take that cooler and fill her up with veggies, sodas, anything you like and just have a ball heading down the road.
You also see more of the road - as you sit higher and have a better idea of what's happening further ahead.

Nina has class! And the answer was, of course, Ferrari. I'm confused why we wasted all that time when the answer was there in front of us all the time. And cup holders can always be stiffened - oh, I dearly love the perspectives on here - I will not have a Ferrari in my house - it has no cup holders. You must definitely have an interesting take on life's other priorities.

Nocars4me, you must live in the city, you couldn't live in the 'burbs without a car!
Steph, If you can parallel park a suburban, my hats off to you. If I tried that they'd have to equip it with a beeper to warn everyone to steer clear.
Question, does anyone own a Chevy Envoy? My husband wants a truck-like SUV, not a "girls" SUV (apparently the Envoy qualifies). What do you think of it?

To Oldtimer:
I won't get in the argument if the Shelby was a convertible, but I do take issue with voting a convertible as the best for "those long road trips". I have a 2001 convertible, and just took it on a 1800 mile trip, and never will again. The interstates are too fast, too noisy to drop the top, and when you're off the interstates, sitting at red lights inhaling fumes is not much fun, either. BUT, it is Wonderful for those twilight times around town!

OldTimer, no argument from me about the Shelby Convertalbe, just didn't realize mustang made one. Had a '67 Shelby Fastback in High School (early 80's) and it was one hellava ride. If you took a Shelby on a road trip, you sure would get there fast!

Didn't say I didn't have one, just stating my preferred way of travel. The type of vehicles I drive are not relevant to this post. xxx, I'm w/you. I was just out in New Mexico (May) & had a little Sebring out in the wilderness & it was nice out around Taos & Santa Fe.

This is an interesting thread... Especially seeing as I'm a person who wouldn't know a reliable car if it jumped up and bit me -- I have never in my life owned anything I would even consider taking a road trip in, usually because I've driven vehicles that seem to sense the instant I've crossed the county line and immediately start either jettisoning all the parts they don't consider essential (like the brakes), or belching smoke in a wide spectrum of attractive colors.
Ha ha -- those wacky pranksters, my vehicles!
However, I'm quite sick of this situation. I want to hit the road! I wanna go on daytrips! Atlanta, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Winston-Salem, Charlotte!!
What's the most reliable car? I wanna see a little more of my world, and I want something reliable and well-made that I can trust to get me where I want to go. Any suggestions?

Technically, Toyota's are the most reliable cars, followed closely by Honda's. I know this 'cause my mom's number one priority in car shopping is reliability, and she is an avid reader of Consumer Reports. I think the number one most reliable car is the Toyota Corolla. That RAV4 seems like a great, reliable 4 wheel drive.

I think the best trip vehicle would probably depend upon where you're going and who is going with you.
Heading to the beach or the mountains? Give me back my red Mustang GT Convertible with white leather interior! I remember being buzzed (with the top down) by an F-15 (?) as we crossed the Eglin AFB years ago. My husband thought it was incredibly awesome to see the fighter directly overhead as we were heading to the beach.
With the kids? Give me my full sized van with TV and headphones in the back for their benefit!
Just me and my husband? Give me my midsized sedan that's loaded.
Us and another couple? Still give me my midsized sedan. I don't care what they're driving because it won't be with us.

Just read this post and am again shocked at the things Nina has to say. I can not believe the arrogance and ignorance she displays. I remember a post she was involved with about cars and how she did not buy cars because of status - I said bull then and say it again now. Nina is a person that thinks she is above and better than others, but doesn't want to admit it because someone may actually not like her.
Nina - you need to volunteer at a soup kitchen or help clothe the less fortunate - you need to do something to see how the real world is.
I have a feeling that Nina's husband works his fingers to the bone and puts in 80 or 90 hour weeks just to keep Nina happy and in the life she feels she deserves.
Thank goodness the world is not made up entirely of Ninas, but on the other hand thank goodness we have Ninas - she helps keep the rest of us grounded!!
