What is Blue Man Group??
 

Planning a trip to NYC in April. We want to see a play/musical and have heard about this. We will be with a 10 yr. old and a 15 yr. old. I've seen Stomp and Noises Off. Just wondered what Blue Man Group is exactly?? Or other suggestions? Thanks.

Fun and funny performance art with a live band playing techno music. As I noted today on another thread, we had high expectations that weren't completely fulfilled.<BR><BR>My 11-year-old was bored by too many skits that required the audience to read long, drawn-out passages written on a succession of big cards (and were only semi-funny). He also didn't think much of several long video sequences, and I agreed. It seemed to us that "Stomp" flowed much better.

I saw Blue Man in NYC and loved it and would expect an 11 year too also. I disagree with Bill but different people/kids like different things. It's a difficult show to describe, I would say just go see it, but don't expect it to change your life. The vast majority of opinions I've heard are very favorable but there are some people for whom it just is not as fascinating.

I saw the Blue Man Group in Las Vegas. I wasn't impressed. It was funny for the first 10 minutes or so but after that it got old fast. I expected more entertainment and less banging on drums while spitting out various items. Kids will probably enjoy the show but I have a feeling they might get bored with it before it's over.

I saw Blue Man in Chicago with my son who was around 11 or 12 at the time. He loved it as did my husband. They both would like to go again.

BMG is to theatre what Muzak is to Chopin - bastardization of high level concepts into pablum for the masses. It's also a great show if you were between 12 and 30 during the 60's.

To add to my prior post, it's a VERY difficult show to describe, but you can visit their website www.blueman.com to try to figure it out.<BR><BR>Likewise, they started in NY and now are also in NYC, Boston, Chicago, and Las Vegas. Although some may not like it, obviously they are having success as the show continues to grow through word or mouth (and their appearance on Intel commercials)

I saw BMG in December in NYC with my two younger cousins aged 16 & 18. They and I absolutely loved it. Try and sit on the left side of the theater in the poncho section. There were younger kids sitting behind us and they did not stop laughing the whole time! The show is hard to explain, but is never boring. There are 3 skits with reading involved. Twice from marquis and once from big cards, but I don't think they will have any problem following along.

Blue Man Group is a modern day mime/performance art show. (Maybe you have seen their commercial for Compaq computers.) The show does not have a plot and is not intended to be appealing to everyone. If your children don't have a lot of stamina, it might not be wise to take them. However, it is fun to be part of good performance art.

Don't get me wrong... I thought BMG (for the most part) was funny, clever, and entertaining. But I also thought that some parts lagged badly. I didn't dislike the show; but I just wasn't as entertained by it as I'd expected to be. It wasn't that we couldn't follow the read-the-text portions, it's that they slowed everything way down, with an insufficient pay-off of humor and/or message.
