What is better?

Is it better to stay at a moderate resort in one of their top rooms, or a luxury resort in one of their cheapest rooms?

tpatricco Mar 23rd, 2006 09:23 AM

Where? When? The answer will vary tremendously based on these questions.

You need to be a little more specific for help of any value.

Another question along the same vein is being asked about 100Euro/night hotels in Paris. There is no right or wrong answer.

It depends on what makes you comfortable and what you plan to do. Often the less desirable rooms at top end luxury resorts are smaller or have limited views (there are many variables) but staying in one does give you full access to that resort's amenities. You have to ask yourself how much time will you actually be using the room. If you are there only for sleeping and you will be using the resort's services and amenities then it makes sense to stay in a lower priced room at the luxury hotel. If on the other hand you won't be using the resorts facilities why would you want to stay there? Really, only you can answer that question.

I would go for the better location.

If the location is the same, I would go for the hotel that has whatever frequent stay program I am a member of.

If the above is the same, I would go for the luxury resort and lesser room. Luxury resort will have better amenities and service.

Sorry I didn't give more info. We are planning a trip to Walt Disney World. We can afford the cheapest room at a deluxe luxury resort, or a better room at the moderate resort. I just don't know which way to go.

TheWeasel Mar 23rd, 2006 12:04 PM

As A_Traveller said, if you're not going to spending much time in the room, other than sleeping, than go for the cheap room at the luxury resort so you have access to their amenities.

GoTravel Mar 23rd, 2006 12:06 PM

At Disney definitely the cheaper room at the luxury resort.

cherie1 Mar 23rd, 2006 12:09 PM

I agree...the luxury resort.

travel_addict Mar 23rd, 2006 12:18 PM

I would also agree - ALL of the rooms at Disney's luxury resorts are nice. You really can't go wrong. What resort are you thinking of? I stayed at the Yacht & Beach Club for a month and loved the location - right next to the Boardwalk and Epcot. They have good restaurants in the resort, and also close by in the Boardwalk area.

Well since you also posted asking if it was OK to use the facilities at an expensive resort while staying at a cheaper one, the answere here should be "go with whichever one you are comfortable using the facilites of". If you want the pool and lounge areas of the expensive place and plan to use them, then stay there getting the cheapest room so you can "legally" and honestly use those facilities.

travel_addict Mar 23rd, 2006 12:38 PM

You seem like a really nice person, Neopolitan. :)

tpatricco Mar 23rd, 2006 12:38 PM

At Disney staying in the park is worth the extra $$. No question. Pick the cheap room at the luxury resort.

bokchoy Mar 23rd, 2006 12:41 PM

Cheap room at luxury resort agreed. Besides the facility, most Disney resorts have transportation to the parks so you don't have to hassle with driving and parking. I particularly like the ones with either monorail or ferry service. Makes the whole experience that much better!

RobinBinNYC Mar 23rd, 2006 01:48 PM

Just to chime in - I stayed at the Disney Yacht Club - I don't recall having to show a room key to use the pool there (going back to the other question posted).

z3fan123 Mar 23rd, 2006 03:26 PM

Thank you all sooo much! We are definitely staying at the luxury resort!

TahitiTams Mar 24th, 2006 05:05 PM

HI..
Always stay at the Luxury Resort with the cheaper room and I always seem to work it with the Front Desk to upgrade me for free by being nice and asking for a comment card with their name so I can tell the GM how nice they have been to me, etc... it does work..
Maybe I should be called the Weasel!
