What holiday music are you ...
 

playing in your car as you TRAVEL to friends and family for holiday parties, or out to do your holiday shopping? Or as you're wrapping and baking at home?

I've been playing both of Vince Gill's Christmas albums, also "Bluegrass, White Snow" by Patty Lovelace (if you like country/bluegrass music, her album is a delight!) Other favorites: Amy Grant's "Home for Christmas"............. "Christmas Time" by The Judds, and the Canadian "Music Box Christmas." And I love "Christmas Carols from Kings College." That one is so beautiful!

My friend brought Michael McDonald's new Christmas album up last night.... good music but doesn't sound like Christmas to me.

Does anyone have Clay Aiken's Christmas album? I don't but am going to pick it up.......... (He graduated high school right across the road from me. Gotta support the boy! :-) )

Hi Bonnie! I was really surprised that our local classic rock station is playing holiday music 12/7 until Christmas Day. So while I TRAVEL, looking for the most unusual decorations (I decided against putting the DH out on the front lawn as a wise man), I listen to a variety of music :)

Seetheworld, I'm thinking of putting my DH on the front lawn as a donkey! :p

Here in Jax Fl, there are a limited number of radio stations that are not radical talk shows.
We found some Golden Oldies station that is playing nothing but Rock'n Roll Christmas music all day and night :D
When that wears thin, we go back to the CDs, Bing Crosby White Christmas ( with the Andrews sisters et al)
In the house- Classical.
Next weekend, we are hosting a young man who has to bake cookies for charity. Since I have two ovens and know how to bake, his mother volunteered us to help him..
Sounds like fun right now :D

If I put my husband on the front lawn, it would have to be as a wise mouth, rather than a wise man!

Back to topic.....I'm hooked on Trans Siberian Orchestra and Manheim Steamroller. Also, good ole' Barbara Streisand, and Kenny G. I play them over and over every year. I'm gonna play them while I travel from room to room in my house today while decorating!

We have a lot of favorites built up over the years -- Manhattan Transfer, Boston Pops (with Arthur Fieldler so you know it's an oldie), there a jazz album I think called Jingle Bell Jazz with a song called Blue Christmas that my son really loves, my high schools album (when we break out the turn table) and the sound of those wonderful, young, fresh voices of people who are now in their 50s is really amazing. What else, Nat King Cole, last year I got a CD of the LA Guitar Quartet doing the Nutcracker Suite which is fabulous, plus some other miscellaneous choral or orchestral -- oh yeah, Joe Pass 12-string Christmas? We are very eclectic in this household.

Ahhhhhhh, BuffaloGirl, my friend and I have also been listening to Mannheim Steamroller and Tran Siberian Railroad while TRAVELING back and forth to the gym...

And then there's the wonderful "Poets and Angels" by Ottmar Liebert (Flamenco and New Age Guitar.) The truth is that I love all kinds of music, and could list a zillion Christmas ones that I like! :-)

Scarlett, you remind me... We have the terrific WCPE playing classical holiday for us here in the Triangle. You're right, too, about Bing and Frank and Andy Williams and Nat King Cole and all those oldies, but still WONDERFUL, ones. Sounds like you will have *sort of* a white Christmas (white flour everywhere!!! :p ) next weekend. What a great idea.... can't wait until my granddaughter gets here to bake with me on the 23rd!!!

The kids (2 and 4) helped with the tree, so most of the ornaments are at the bottom! :D

I love the Trans Siberian Orchestra!!! My other favorites are the Nutcracker and then a cd we bought from Radio City Music Hall. Makes me feel like we are back there enjoying the show:)

Geesh!!! I said "Trans Siberian Railroad"..... of course, I meant "Orchestra." :-!

Messiah, Messiah, and also Messiah. My sweetie's professional choir performed it with orchestra on Friday and they're doing an out-of-town performance on December 13th, with a different orchestra. So that's primarily what's in our heads and in the air these days. I'm also taking two of my granddaughters to see "Nutcracker" in a couple of weeks, so that will be dancing around in my brain for a while.

I have several CD's that I listen to on a regular basis this time of year, but my favorite is Harry Connick Jr.'s "When My Heart Finds Christmas." Gosh, I just love his voice. I also really enjoy Mannheim Steamroller and Classical Guitar Christmas CD's.

It seems like most of the radio stations around here are on 24/7 Christmas music. This morning the oldies station out of Greensboro had the Temptations Christmas medley.

One song I like, but hardly ever here is Amy Grant's "Tender Tennessee Christmas" maybe I like it because it's not played that often.

A couple of years ago I was in London during December and the stores all had Christmas music, but even though the melodies and lyrics are the same it seemed so different because it was by British musicians and I wasn't used to their voices.

Y'all made me laugh out loud with the "wise" cracks.

We've got the Charlie Brown Christmas CD on. DS loves it and screams along (he doesn't know how to sing yet...)

BuffaloGirl, Kenny G is another that I have to listen to every year, and I agree that it's just not Christmas without a little Bing Crosby.

While we're talking about holiday music here, do any of you go caroling during the season, or do you have carolers that come by your house to sing? The tradition seems to have died, at least in our neighborhood! :-(

Ah, what would Christmas be without those dogs barking Jingle Bells? Or without Alvin and the Chipmunks?
