Suggestion - with your scanner, make a color copy of your driver's license and passport, and put them in your suitcase. ((F))

Jed, would you really put copies of that information in your suitcase? That type of information I always keep in my carry-on.

Indeed, I have put copies in my check-ins and/or carry-ons. But the point is to carry a copy someplace else than in your wallet.

Has anyone actually had problems with identity theft after a lost passport or license? /:)

Scanned copies would be very handy if you (or a thief) need to get new official copies made. But I would hope that the copies would not be accepted as ID, since they would be SO easy to fake.

This happened to me on a flight home from Orlando in June. Thought I'd lost my drivers' license (it was the end of a long, but great, 10 day trip/cruise and I think I was in la-la land at this point). The person at the ticket counter took one look at the crazy woman upending her purse, the husband who was visibly irritated with spouse and the two children who were pretending that said crazy woman was in no way related to them and was as kind as possible. He asked to see my social security card and then wrote the number and 'no D.L.' all over my ticket. We proceeded to security with my husband sure I'd be yanked out of line and stripped searched--to my surprise I was checked right through-- the agent even smiled at me. Really, the fact that I WASN'T stopped was more disturbing than anything but that's a fear for another time...

Tess, our families must be related!! (LOL) - that's the same reaction/behavior that I usually encounter when I make a travel boo boo :) (Never carry a piece of fruit in your purse when leaving Bermuda to the US - they sick the dogs on you!)

I saw this on a post a year ago. Scan your documents and email them to your www email yahoo or so. You can reach them from any computer, nearly anywhere. I plan to do so in my next ny trip next month: passport, driving licence and the likes . . .

Lost my wallet in Houston last yr and had to fly back to Milwaukee with no ID. We called ahead to find out what to do. Same scenario as Suzanne. We were told to be there plenty early cuz the check-in and search process would take longer. In reality it didn't take all that much longer. It's nerve-wracking worrying that I wouldn't be allowed to board the plane but turned out to be needless worrying.
